I had fibre installed to my house yesterday.  It took Chorus a whopping 12 hours from start to finish!  I must add though that it was not a straightforward job for them and the guys who did it did a sterling job.

At 8:45pm after their several unsuccessful attempts to contact Orcon to get my Genius settings switched from ADSL to fibre, I told the guys to call it a day and I'd contact Orcon myself.  I could see they were absolutely beat and in need of a rest and dinner.

I did manage to get through to Orcon last night and we went through a few settings etc, but could not get the fibre connection live.  It was a bit disappointing as the "tech" I was talking to didn't even know now to back up my router settings, so being able to get my connection live seemed like an impossibility.  He said he was going to raise a ticket for L2 support to look into the issue.

He asked that I keep my Genius set to UFB so L2 support could do some line checks when they had time.  The issue is that we need internet at home as my girlfriend works from home, so I've had to keep it set to ADSL so she has access.  So my Genius is set to ADSL as I type.

The other issue is that I really need to be involved in the troubleshooting process as my girlfriend isn't as technology literate as I am, but I am at work and not at home with access to the Genius etc.  But as it stands, I have no idea when L2 support are going to contact me so I cannot plan to be home when they do.

Are any of the Orcon guys who hang out here able to provide some advice to me on how I should proceed?  I'd obviously like to get the sorted asap (before the weekend would be perfect), so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

OK, so your UFB circuit is up?

What I would recommend is that you factory reset it (from the web interface), and then plug in the UFB service to the LAN port 4, but nothing else (unplug any other LAN devices).

Give it 15 minutes or so to pick up and apply its settings.

Then plug in your other devices and you're away.  You'll need to reconfigure wifi, port forwards etc.

Cheers

Hi guys,

We did all that last night with the Orcon tech support guy. Someone from Orcon here in NZ just called me (L2 support I assume) and he is going to call my girlfriend at home to have her go through the process again.

Hopefully lady luck intervenes and it works this time :).

Thanks for the quick responses and I will post the outcome later today.

Cheers.

Hm, well luck should have "nothing to do with it" as they say.  If it didn't work before, something was wrong.  But you should be in good hands.

Just want to be clear, if you factory reset with ADSL connected it will come up setup for ADSL, not UFB, for this transfer you should remove all cables except power and then factory reset, then connect the correct Ethernet LAN port (4?), to the ONT and boot.

Is that what you did? If not definite then please repeat as above.

Hi FireEngine,

Yes the ADSL cable was disconnected when we went through the whole setup last night.  Twice.  Regardless, lady luck did prevail and my connection is now working thanks to Orcon L2 support and my girlfriend.

I knew I shouldn't have been involved.  They don't call me "sex fingers" for nothing.  Everything I touch, I f.....
