I just received my FritzBox on Thurs after signing up to SNAP on their VDSL plan.

We had some issues when first authenticating - the username was defaulted to showcase@snap.net.nz which didn't seem right, but after ringing up and getting my correct username and password I was able to connect (at only 20MBs/2MBs but that is another issue).

Now I started setting up all my LAN IP addresses for various devices and playing around with the DECT base station and VOIP. All working ok at this stage.

Then I noticed that my two XBMCs (serving media off my home server) started freezing, with what looked like buffering issues. Very odd.

I played around with a few things and decided to try switching my old Netgear WNDR3700 router back in (just for local routing) and the XBMCs were sweet again. So it seems to me like the FritzBox has some sort of issue with LAN routing.

I checked the firmware on the box and it is reporting FRITZ!OS 05.61-27090 BETA. This struck me as a little odd. Everyone is reporting 5.51 or 5.22 around here from what I can tell - no mention of 5.61.

I am starting to think they might have sent me the wrong box! Based on the fact it seems to have some BETA firmware loaded, and had the wrong username preconfigured.

Anyone got any ideas what could be going on here?!

I am currently on hold with Snap support to see if they can shed any light on the matter...

Hmmmm...24/7 support they reckon...been on hold for 30mins and moved from position 2 -> 1. And this is at 12.30am on a Fri night...

for vdsl, highly recommend 5.21.

im gonna take a punt here, iver your very borderline, and your not gonna get much faster, chorus naffed your install, or simply the firmware is hurting it. (at this point, pretty equal give or take on them all)

line stats? previous line stats? can make a better argument from there.

as for your XBMC, connectivity between devices? wired or wireless?

you probably got sent a beta firmware, to fix a few issues with the current ones, IMO snap need to stop pressing their 6.0 firmwares and roll back to a known good firmware (5.21 - before myfritz was added which has the security hole in it.)

as for getting ahold of snap, i dont normally have issues, i dont tend to call this late though.

On the phone now. Apparently this is the latest firmware so shouldn't be an issue. Install should be sweet, have a new house with star wiring and a VDSL filter - the install took 10mins.

Both XBMC devices (RPis running Raspbmc) are wired directly to a gigabit switch which is wired to the router. Never had a problem streaming anything until the Fritz arrived.

Is there any way to roll back to 5.21? I have no desire to enable MyFritz...

probably a two step downgrade, dropping back to 5.51 via flashing, and then "upgrading" to the downgrade firmware.

once again, stats? call my sceptical, but i dont trust anything latest from AVM of recent. (and last beta firmware it think i the snap guy, throwing it back listing about 5 bugs in it, including pretty serious crashes, that costed me DLM-1 in about 30 mins flat.)

assumed possible wireless issues, but if your directly connected, clearly not the case.

try disabling green mode on the firtz, i have seen odd issues with it on some machines. (although considering your via a switch it may be unlikely.)

in my own experience, i never have issue streaming from my fritz (7390) fileserver is directly attached to it. wireless can be hairy (i have alot of interference around me though.) and through my PC, gbit line maxes out.

cant say i have any PIs sitting around to test with sadly.. other issue you could be having, is IPv6 your PIs might be confused a little and going in/out the WAN..

Apologies for forgetting to put the line stats in, was getting pretty late last night!

These are the only ones I could find on the FB that looked useful. Is this what you need? Or should I be looking somewhere else for this stuff?

I don't have 'green' mode enabled for any of my LAN ports, and in fact am only using one of the ports - to connect to my gigabit switch.

Interesting comments about IPV6 and the RPis. I presume to test this I just set 'Disable DHCPv6 server in the FRITZ!Box:'.

After disabling IPv6 things have definitely improved. Haven't had any buffering on the Pis. I was still noticing a lot of HTTP timeouts (in my home automation software which gets weather updates periodically etc).

I have just updated my DNS servers to point to the .2 and .3 (rather than .1 and .2 defaults) after a suggestion elsewhere on GZ. Waiting to see if that improves these timeout issues.

I am also having other issues with the FritzBox, in particular fixed DHCP IP address assignments just being ignored. Very very frustrating. My home server (which is on 24/7) just up and changed IP address the other night - in the middle of streaming a movie. I have been through and configured static IPs on as many devices as I can on the network but it is pretty disappointing this box doesn't handle this.

For such an expensive router it is definitely not meeting my expectations.

And don't get me started on Snap support...

ipv6 issues are hit and miss depending on people, for me, ipv6 works great.

dns issues on .1 werent very delightful, but i suspect they may have fixed .1 now (im still sitting on .2 and .3 however.)

DHCP ignoring assignments? cant say i have ever had this issue.. are you still running a beta firmware? maybe a bug? no way should your server have been handed a new ip like that.. sounds like something went rather wrong.

as for snaps support, snap have been great for me, through all my faults and arguments, they provided excellent service, it was chorus that let them down for me.

Yeah - apparently it is a known issue with the FB - I am still on the firmware that came with the box yes, so it definitely sounds like a bug. I am not keen to change firmware just yet, in fact I am trying to see if I can get the box replaced as there seems to be too many things going wrong!

And yep, I am sure IPv6 is great - but this is my first taste and things have been far from smooth! Seems Snap are having a lot of troubles with it based on other threads here.

I had heard such good things about Snap support and that is a big reason I switched over. But so far I have been pretty disappointed. Everytime I ring it takes 30mins or more of holding before I can speak to anyone, that includes ringing after midnight on a Friday! Then I was promised a call back on Monday after they did some tests which never happened. I let it be known I hadn't heard anything via Twitter (since I didn't fancy waiting another 30mins on hold!) and finally on Thurs I had a missed call from support saying they would ring me back on Fri. No word so I rang this morning, spent 30mins on hold, and then got told the CSR couldn't believe it was being looked at since they don't support the NAS feature on the FB - when I tried to tell him half way thru his speil it wasn't a NAS issue on the FB he rudely told me to 'let me finish'.

I was close to letting him have it right there and then, but managed to refrain.

My question was that at the end of the day Snap has supplied the device and if it is found to be faulty who will replace it. His answer was only if it affected my DSL/phone service.

I had a very stable ADSL connection at 10MB/1MB previously on Telecom. Now I have a 20MB/2MB connection, costing me $10 a month more, and a router that is causing a ton of problems.

Yet they don't seem to interested.

Added to that I asked for a line test which they were going to get back to me about. And once again I had to prompt them today, 10 days after the request, to do anything about it.

Sorry for the vent, just far from impressed with both the service (speeds), the hardware and the support.

And once again, after being promised a call back today, there has been nothing from Snap. I guess there is still 3 hours to go before 'today' has finished but I am not holding my breath.

Seriously - am I the only one getting such rubbish support from these guys?! I refuse to call up again and spend another 30mins on hold.
