Mid January (approx), started having a number of issues.

  • No Data (vic park, college hill, herne bay), I do get data other places, but erratically.
  • Calls I make not connecting.
  • Calls I make taking eons to connect.
  • Calls I make (when they do connect), the receiver can't understand what I say, and have been told I sound like I am under water
  • Calls I receive, I can hear the caller, but they can't hear me.
  • Text messages failing to send
Basically unusable.

I put it down to the Android upgrade that came mid January, but now am on KitKat and have the same issue.

Just to rule it out being anything to do with my phone, I have put a Telecom prepay SIM in it 3 days ago and now everything works flawlessly.   Nothing wrong with my phone then.

I emailed  paymonthlycare@2degreesmobile.co.nz on 31st march describing this and the fact it I had put in a Telecom SIM.   I emailed again today (2nd May) to ask if they really did careHave not had a response to either email.

Should I just give up then and join Telecom ?

Have you tried a new 2d sim? I did and that fixed it.

Have never had a SIM issue in 20 years....

Will give it a try though.

I just switched from Skinny to 2degrees on my HTC One also, but my phone is working great, no issues. So it's probably your location.

I agree it sounds to me very much like issues with your network coverage where you are, or do you have this same experience wherever you go?

Its not location.   In my initial post you will see I am talking about at least 2 square kilometres of central Auckland.

Off to get a new 2Degress SIM shortly.

Wow....  Its raining....   If it stops, then I will go get a new SIM.

Try the phone on 2g only. 2degrees 3g network is not that good and my last try on them with a s3 had the phone hanging onto unusable 3g for way too long and they have a lot of unusable 3g coverage.

Got very wet....

Got  new SIM.   Worked in the shop (but it took near 10 seconds to connect).  Got outside the shop (Queen St.), phoned my wife (on 2Degrees in Parnell).    30 seconds to connect and when it did, she could not understand much of what I was saying.  She said I sounded like I was in a swimming pool, well it was raining.    Sent her an SMS (from Britomart), it took text 30 seconds but it went.   Sent her another one from bottom of Hobson St.  sending failed after about a minute I guess (phone said it made several attempts).

Now at AirNZ (Fanshaw St) where just had a call work OK.   It won't last....

Yes, I have tried it on vanilla GSM and on 3G.

Not going to waste time on this, if it doesn't work reliably (in central Auckland) then I'm off to Telecom at the weekend.

What was included in the update? did it upgrade the modem?
Would it be possible to flash a different modem software? Sounds more like a hardware/firmware issue if it happened after an update than a 2 degrees issue.
Can you try it with a telecom or vodafone prepaid sim and see if it works?

Read first post.  Works perfectly with Telecom SIM.

Interesting problem; it doesn't sound like a SIM issue to me, based on the problems you are having.
It does sound like it could be a coverage issue, but if you are getting that in multiple locations then that doesn't really fit either.
So for me that points to the handset - some issue with the device itself or its settings.
Can you confirm (a) the frequencies supported by the device and that (b) the device isn't locked to 3G/UMTS only in the network settings?

Hi there
Can you pm me your details please, and let me know where you got the phone from? Was it Telecom?
Also can you include the email address you sent them in on.

Cheers
