Hi There,

I'm considering changing to Orcon for their Unlimited VDSL plan. This is my current set up...

Naked ADLS with xNet
2 VOIP Numbers with Conversant
A Static IP Address

I understand that the Orcon Unlimited plan comes with 1 VOIP number so I would potentially move one of my numbers over. I can see on the back of the modem that they supply that there are 2 jacks for phone lines (Netcomm NF4V).

I've been told by sales that I would have to purchase a second plan to run 2 VOIP numbers!??? Surely this can't be the case.

So a couple of questions...

Am I able to utilise the second phone jack on the modem or does Orcon have it locked down?
If the modem is locked down, as I suspect it will be, can I run my existing VOIP switch or does Orcon block the ports I would require?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Orcon provide a fully managed end to end VoIP solution so lock down the hardware as any good provider would do.

There is nothing to stop you running another ATA behind this, assuming there are no port or SIP ALG issues.

They are correct, we don't currently offer a "naked" sip service you can purchase separately.

You can however use your own ATA behind Genius and connect it to another SIP provider, I would suggest setting it to use port 6000 rather than the default 5060 so that our built in SIP service doesn't interfere.

Oh dear. Just tried to sign up only to be told that I couldn't have a static IP address on the Unlimited plan. Unfortunately that a deal breaker

Was just going to say that when I first read over your pre-requisites that we aren't able to offer static IP addressing on the residential unlimited plans unfortunately. As Ubergeeknz said, all the best with your new provider.

My evil overlord has just prodded me and said that there are unlimited VDSL plans that are slightly more expensive but come with a free static IP

and by slightly I mean $10 or $20. Just FYI

hmmm i'm on Unlimited (ADSL) and just got an email from Orcon saying that for a statci IP it would be $10 a month. Maybe thats just for ADSL.

Any chance someone could give me some detail to quote the sales team? They don't appear to know you can have a static IP. Happy to pay the extra $10.

Not quite true

Only offer Static IP's on Residential capped plans currently, Residential Unlimited static IP's are not available.

Business plans come with a free static ip.

So it turns out there are some Business plans available for ADSL, VDSL and UFB which have Unlimited data *and* a Static IP.

You'll need to call Business Sales rather than Residential sales - the number is 0800 55 20 00

I tried the business line to ask about getting 2 VOIP lines and a staticIP. They took my details and said they would call back when someone was available. That was 3 days ago now...

Thats OK. I've signed up for the residential plan. Operating without a static IP will make some aspects of work frustrating but there are always work arounds
