I see on the Orcon website that the fibre plans now come with the "Genius White Modem". Does this perform any better than the black modem (given they are a few years old now).

Will existing customers with the black modem be upgraded at any stage?

What's the deal with the phone on the white modem as I noticed there is no lite/full versions? Is it bring your own phone like the Genius Lite?

Thanks

It has Gigabit ports, and can support VDSL.  In theory it can route Gigabit at line speed.  So as for right now, you won't see much difference, but with future products, the extra performance is needed.

Probably not, unless they change to a service that requires the Genius White (eg. VDSL or some future UFB plans with high performance)

You must BYO phone.  There's no DECT option.

I've used both of these modems in the recent past...
I was upgraded black > white when I upgraded ADSL2 > VDSL2.
VDSL2 was not a success due to line distance/attenuation, so I went back to ADSL2.
I got exactly the same ADSL performance with both routers (at the same address with the same wiring and the same VDSL master filter).

Yeah ADSL is a doddle for either modem.  Keep in mind even Genius Black can handle 100/50 UFB at close to line speed.

Im on fibre. I was more curious about WiFi performance than line speed.

WiFi performance is similar, they both support the same standards (802.11n dual-channel 2.4Ghz only) and coverage seems to be similar where we've done back-to-back comparisons.

The White has gig lan ports so can give a performance boost for locally wired gig capable devices.
