I have a friend who has a website, with DNS hosted on no-ip.
I tried to browse to his website today, but it didn't work.
Tried it from my work connection (vector) and it worked fine.

Tried to ping ns1.no-ip.com and it's a no go. Doesn't resolve an ip or anything.

I can browse directly to the IP's and ping them, just not the domain names.

If I change my DNS to google, then it all functions as expected.

Can anyone else on a snap VDSL connection try ping ns1.no-ip.com and see if it works?

I am also having DNS issues with various domains including noip.com and baidu.com

These domains stopped working on the evening of the 30th May.

My friend is also having trouble connecting to my no-ip ddns domain and to noip.com.

I believe this issue is affecting everyone on Snap, as I am on VDSL and my friend is on ADSL2+, and we live in different suburbs of Auckland.

I have rang up Snap about it and they said that they definitely see an issue here and they are going to have a look at it. However it is Sunday and tomorrow is a public holiday, so I think we might not have it resolved until Tuesday at the earliest.

In the mean time a workaround is to change your DNS from Snap to Google which is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

On orcon fibre I can ping and lookup ns1.no-ip.com, but no webpage.

Also, ns1 kinda indicates that it's the nameserver for no-ip.com. This probably isn't the actual dynamic dns name of your friend. The nameservers would be the authority for the actual domain name of your friend, which would be somethingmorepersonal.no-ip.com.

Hi mate,
I think you misinterpreted my post.

I know that ns1 is the name server. Its the name server my mate is using as his primary for his website for DNS (which I didn't want to list publicly)

Appears to be a snap issue though, based on the posts above.

the snap DNS server is returning a funky SOA record (it thinks it is authoritative for the domain). should be an easy fix
