MadEngineer: I'll have to start a new thread, but I was using . I'll try my laptop when I get some time after work.

I found I could ping -6 the router, load the [ipv6] address of my router to get the web interface and could also ping my wan ip from a testing site but no ipv6 traffic was being forwarded from my pc out. Ping -6 eventually started resolving but I had errors (edit: timeouts) on the pings. I also tried my mikrotik (in place of the genius) which itself was unable to ping out on ipv6 despite getting an ipv6 addresses and a route. My pc was getting an ipv6 gateway on the mikrotik (because I'd set up an ipv6 dhcp server), but not on the genius - is that normal? My pc had the same results with either the mikrotik or the genius.

So, my windows 7 laptop is in the same boat as my windows 8 desktop as above.

Sounds like you are over complicating things. IPV6 is actually quite simple.

The fact you have DHCPv6 on your mikrotik won't be helping.

Try this

Turn off the Mikrotik, unplug everything but the ONT from the Genius Black router and then connect just the windows 7 laptop and see how it goes.

We have seen the Mikrotiks do funny things, especially the truenet probes which setup multiple gateways.

When I was using the mikrotik I had it in place of the genius meaning I swapped between them. Either genius or mikrotik, not both. I'd used the Mikrotik only for comparison/testing and it's currently disconnected.

I want to get the genius working so that I know ipv6 actually is working and also to help with any testing orcon may require.

Windows 7 laptop had exactly the same outcome as the windows 8 desktop.

Can you post photos of your windows 7 config, ethernet status window (which shows IP's etc)

and a photo of the windows routing table.

We had a look at your config on the router, and RA's and Stateless DHCPv6 was disabled.

We have enabled them now

Give it a whirl and let us know.

Would I be able to get help setting up IPV6 on my Mikrotik?

I don't seem to be able to make much sense of the guides, they don't seem to apply to using interfaces as opposed to ports ie it's fine running some of the commands against an ethernet port but not a bridge or the vlan interface.

OK, not sure if I've done this correctly, but it works. I get an ipv6 address of xyzz:xyzz:xyzz:x00::/56 so added an ip of xyzz:xyzz:xyzz:x01::/64 to the LAN interface

My PC shows:

hmm, after finding some websites are not resolving or opening (en.wikipedia.org, www.nzherald.co.nz) i rebooted the mikrotik and it's broken again.

what address should i be giving my LAN interface? the dhcpv6 client is still working on the vlan

The first /64 from the /56 prefix delegated by the DHCPv6 Prefix delegation. (DHCP-PD)

The trick is however to set it up in a way it automatically assigns the ipv6 address to the LAN, as the prefix could change at any time.

Its recommended to use Stateless Autoconfiguration on the LAN with a short prefix life time.

ok. i had it in my first post that i set it as the /64 +1 as in where i've put x01 -- and that was previously working

I'll see if i can work out how to get it to automatically assign

What that is saying, that a router that gets its Prefix from SLAAC, cant be a router. Which is 100% true.

You are getting a prefix delegation and a wan ipv6 address using DHCPv6.

The router should then take that prefix received from the DHCP Prefix delegation and use SLAAC on the LAN using that prefix.

If that prefix is to change, then the SLAAC will advertise the new prefix on the LAN.

ok. looks like my ipv6 address changed. copy and pasted the /64 as the LAN ip and it started working straight away. any ideas how to have that happen automatically?
