Thinking of switching to 2degrees. Plans look great. As I live just outside of 2degrees coverage in Dunedin, wondering what the performance is like roaming on Vodafone outside coverage areas? Normal data speeds? I have heard someone say on Vodafone, 2degrees gets 2nd grade treatment.

Ages back their plans look complicated when outside of zones, but seems they have include mins and data for all zones now.

Interested to hear what people think.

Regards
Scott

I haven't had an issue, but then I live and work in the WGTN area, so don't roam that much.  Haven't had issues when roaming, but then I haven't had a Vodafone handset nearby to compare it to either.

While 2degrees customers will not get 4G if connected on our roaming network they will get 3G and 2G where it's offered.  If you're coming over from Vodafone the phone will work fine, they use the same frequencies as our network.
You can check the coverage where you are here -  2degrees Coverage Map

With our Freedom plans you're not locked into a contract plus you get more Carryover data than ever before, 1.5GB on our $39 and $49 plans, 2GB data on the $69 plan - Freedom Plans

Within our own canopy you can take advantage of our MBB Zone packs and all your Carryover plan data will be saved up and whether in or outside our canopy if you need more data, these packs make your $ go further - NZ Data Packs

Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply. I'm with telecom. Recently purchased a samsung note 3 telecom branding on it. Does work when I put a 2degrees sim in it, but will it work fully? Are certain bands lock out or disabled?

Thanks
Scott

For the OP.
If you're 'just outside' the coverage area it would be agood idea to get a 2d sim and see hiw it works for you.
These boundaries aren't as simply defined as they appear on coverage maps and you may be in the space where sometimes you 'roam' and sometimes you don't. Or maybe get marginal (sometimes no) 2d coverage because you're not recogised as being within the vf roam zone by their network.

Checking this before you commit may save dissatisfaction with a service when the reality is its not reliably available where you want it.

You'll need to check your model works on 900GSM, 900 UMTS, 1800 GSM & LTE and 2100 HSPDA to connect to our signals.   Some models (N900W8) may not be able to connect to the 3G U900 frequency.

Cheers
