So, I'm on the IPv6 trial which has nothing to do with this issue as I had this issue way back before I swapped in a Mikrotik as my main router. The issue is that the Genius just fails to get WAN connectivity - it still has an external address and claims the link is up but no data can go out - the built in ping test fails to send to 8.8.8.8 but IIRC it *does* ping what would the next hop, along with pinging the ONT on 192.168.0.1 (I think that was its IP...)
I didn't test IPv6 connectivity but will do this the next time it fails. Now this is already the third unit I've been through. I'd love to get this sorted but want to know what's going on - do I need a FOURTH replacement router?
When using the Mikrotik the connection stayed static for a whole month while I was away in another country while still logging back into my home PC and home cameras. I also had the Genius providing my phone line, configured on its on VLAN from the Mikrotik. It was rock steady providing the phone line only.
I can ring the helpdesk but I'm only going to be told it's normal to need to restart the router every couple of days. This is not acceptable when you find your phone line has been down all day and you need wait for the router to reset before you can make a call, short of wasting minutes on your cell phone.
