Hi

AVM is introducing its first-ever FRITZ!Box for fiber-optic connections.
http://en.avm.de/news/the-latest-news-from-fritz/2014/avm-at-cebit-2014-the-gigabit-generation/fritzbox-4080/

Will Snap look at getting this?

Dean

Looks nice

But with the LFC's installing their own ONTs, I cant see why this unit would be used.

No mention of optical connection, gigabit WAN port, wireless AC and looks like a fairly well powered processor.

to be fair, have seen how a 7340 handles are 200/200 connection, they are solid. i have heard mention that it handles well faster than that too.

although, with the excess crap AVM are trying to shove into their boxes, maybe it will be needed.

as for what this box is, seems it has two options for WAN, gbit port or Directly with an SPF module

not really.

you read it right, there is a direct fiber model, but its unlikely to be used here for UFB - IIRC there was one non chorus area that in some cases weren't using an ONT (i recall a thread on here.. one of the first few fiber installations posted here).

and most people like "features" so its highly likely if they do come into play, it will be the USB model... how often does the average consumer even consider SPF? ..

if your really interested in one, might be able to get snap to get one in for you.

i was talking to snap NOC folk awhile back, they were looking at bringing the 7400 range into circulation, however as with this model, they are more expensive... and going back to the point i made before, the 7300 range is actually pretty strong compared to alternatives.
