Hi

I have decided to switch from WxC to snap for my broadband - will save me heaps of $$.

Currently, I have a VOIP line through WxC (VFX), which is quite stable.

Now, I  have heard that the VoIP service through snap (snap plus) is not very reliable yet, so I could stay with WxC on the VOIP.

Any experience anyone with snap VOIP (snap plus) ?

Cheers

Hansi

I moved from WXC to snap plus. As far as the phone goes, I don't beleive anyone else in NZ has as good a voip solution as WXC for plug and play (with locked down settings).
Snap plus has been ok though. Things that annoy me about it is the lack of MWI for our phone and we don't receive a stuttered tone when there is a message waiting. Our fritz box came unprovisioned from Snap (error at their end). They have logged on remotely and set the settings up, however, they have mentioned other settings that are not visable through the gui (using CIR for ufb etc).
I don't beleive the fritz box supports the full mwi indicator which I miss.

Love the speed and price of Snap though.

Agree with dolsen, also missing the MWI but it's not a huge issue with having voicemail's emailed instead.

We've only had one issue with sound quality in the 2 months we've had Snap Plus, but I can't be sure that was the fault of Snap Plus. Can't pinpoint any downtime that wasn't self inflicted. Had no complaints about sound quality or connection from friends/family.

been using snap plus since moving to snap, reliability was quite a step up from the orcon VOIP that was at the flat we were staying at before that (to be fair, that place had its upload hammered, and was only adsl..)

cant say i have ever had an issue with it.

the fritzbox app for phones is an extra bonus too, soon as i get home it wakes up, signs in and works away

i have been using Snap plus since they introduced it a couple years ago on ADSL2 and now on fibre and have never had a problem with quality or it not been stable. I lost caller id but that was because of using a Uniden phone , i switched to a Panasonic and it's worked ever since. i have also set up the info light on the Fritz box to blink if i get a new message  . I havent used any other Voip service so i cant compare but im happy.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

The Fritz!fone app is certainly a big bonus, checking the telephony logs shows that we answer using the app about 90% of the time now.

Works fine here. There's been nothing unreliable about it at all. The unlisted feature that you have 5 simultaneous calls available has been useful at times.

Aside from the MWI not working (the stuttered dial tone however /does/ work for us last i checked) the only caveat is the inconsistent result of using it with non fritz hardware. Snap will not support non fritz hardware and whether it works or not seems to be a gamble. eg it worked on freeswitch with my account, didnt with someone elses etc.

Apart from some initial problems (couldn't make or receive calls to or from Telecom numbers for about a week) it's been fine for the most part. A couple of little gripes (which might be easily fixed, but I haven't looked into it):

1. Caller ID displays an extra leading zero, so can't call a number straight back by selecting the number and hitting dial (on my Uniden phone anyway), I have to manually dial it.
2. The phone doesn't seem to ring as loudy as it did on the old copper service.

Don't know about MWI, but I'm sure we got the stuttered tone for messages (not 100% as we just have them coming straight to email now instead).

Edit: I've only had it on VDSL and now fibre, so can't comment on how it performs on ADSL.

Every analogue phone in NZ that has a Telepermit will add the 0 itself - this is a requirement for PTC approval. Most phones have the option to remove the 0.

I just called WxC to tell them, I will switch my broadband to snap but keep the VFX for the moment and here they told about their new plan:

FUSION UNLIMITED for 99$

https://www.wxc.co.nz/residential/fusion/

Have been waiting for that for 9 months now!

So, I'll stay with WxC.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations.
