Hey guys
Wondering if anyone has done this yet?
Spoke to Snap today about getting UFB. By the sounds of it, the configuration is done by them, and any changes has to also be done by them? - Using a Fritzbox.
Where using our own kit is un-supported.

I would much rather use a Mikrotik RV2011UAS.
We also would like phones over fibre, how does one configure the Mikrotik for that?

Thoughts, options?

A Mikrotik will work fine for UFB. You're just totally on your own in terms of support (ie Snap aren't going to support you).

Snap also don't support voice hardware that's not supplied by them. Once again it'll work but they will provide no support and you'll have to somehow convince them why they should give you your SIP credentials.

I know Mikrotik, just not sure on an config for SIP? And how will the end result look like, bridge SIP client per ethernet port? To a fancy PABX?

A config for SIP will depend entirely on what hardware you're using. Once again your first step would be to get Snap to provide you with SIP credentials, something they typically won't do. Their voice product is a fully managed service.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about when you say "bridge SIP client per ethernet port?"

TBH neither do I.

I've never done a SIP setup before. How does it come down the fibre, vlans?

No. All internet and voice traffic uses the same connection. With the appropriate setup and correct 802.1p tag it will use your high priority CIR rather than your low priority EIR though.

If you don't understand SIP and aren't capable of explaining what you want to do, to be completely honest you shouldn't be moving away from a managed service.

Totally agree with you. I think I'd be better off with a SIP provider. I'll have a hunt round geek zone now, any recommendations?
