I have this frustrating problem since moving to Slingshot earlier this month.

I signed up for an 80gb plan which is what I had with Vodafone before moving.

With Vodafone I used about 30gb of data per month except occasionally it might get to 50gb. Not a high user. Part of the reason for my low usage is I am on a rural exchange with ADSL1.

Since moving to Slingshot my data usage was about 10gb for the first 10days (same as Vodafone) but 2 days ago Slingshot advised I had used all of my current month data plus all my rollover data. About 150gb in 1 day.

Given I am on ADSL1 with a download speed of 2mbps this is highly unlikely.

Multle calls with Slingshot and I am still no closer to getting a resolution on this. I've heard they changed some hardware that is now reporting incorrectly but this does not seem right.

Right now I have dial up speeds after only 10 days in my new month and no resolution in sight.

Does anyone else experience this problem or does anyone know how to fix? It is not physically possible for my internet connection to use 150gb in one day.

Please help.

Have you checked there is nothing go trying to upload anything, nothing downloading things on your end? Things like iCloud, Dropbox an email that's stuck sending or torrents downloading/uploading.

Could also be something like someone trying to get into your modem.

Could try downloading something like a bandwidth monitor for your PC.

If you use an android device you should be able to check how much and what's been downloading recently.

Thanks. I don't torrent anything (anymore), PC is off, devices unchanged and even if I was, 150gb in 12 hours on 2mbps connection. Seems unlikely or even impossible.

If it's still doing it when all your devices are off then someone is trying to get into your modem, or it's miss reporting.

Yes that a lot for your connection

Right now on dial up speeds. I will change modem and router passwords which should block any unauthorised attempts. My nearest house is out of wifi range as I live in rural Canterbury so probably not a neighbour hacking into my connection.

What router? Are you sure its firewall is on? Have you tested to check if its DNS is responding to external requests (possibly being a participating of an amplification attack)?

There is a problem with the Data Usage accounting part of the system that caused a serious spike in the data usage reporting that subsequently triggered the throttling to Dial-Up speeds.

Slingshot is aware of this issue and their network team has been working on resolving this.  As of Saturday morning they could not tell me exactly when this will be fixed.  However I was assured that they will be working on this until it is fixed.

I was hit by this on Thursday night where my Data Block balance of almost 300GB was zeroed out within an hour.

Some clarification from Slingshot sure would be much appreciated.
As of Monday morning the support staff could not provide me with any timeline when this problem will be resolved.

I don't mind how long it will take to resolve the data usage accounting issue.
What I have problem with is the fact that I am not able to use the internet as the speed seems even slower that dial-up, simple webpages takes minutes to load.

Since the problem is with the data count part of the system, why not just disable the throttling util the cause of the problem is resolved?

They should be able to do so if their system facilitates this ability. either or they should Nuke the data so you are not affected anymore. Not fair that you are wearing it from their issue.

My interenet speed is unchanged. I just get an email every 20 minutes saying I've used 100% of my data allowance. At last check I've used 1.5Tb in the last 3 days. Not bad for an ADSL1 connection with a 2mbps download speed!

You might be onto something that could make you a fortune! Try the modem on Trademe. Heaps of people would buy one with that performance, especially as it can do it at dial-up speeds!!

Agree with others, though, don't see why you have to suffer over this problem.

Whelp, from my understanding something went belly up for a handful of customers during some network changes. One solution is to apply chunks of data to accounts that have been affected but this doesn't work if the system thinks there's been usage of up around a terabyte. There's a wider fix being worked on for that right this second so I should have some more details in regards to that in a few minutes.
