Gidday all,

My business was a pretty early UFB install over a year ago in Wellington (just the second in the region apparently), and we have now finished out 12 month commitment to Orcon.

After an incredibly lumpy customer service experience during initial installation the service has been reasonable overall from a technical perspective, though actually dealing with Orcon has always been a serious pain in the rear.... overseas support lines, long holds, never get the same person twice.

So, with this in mind, and looking at the scuttlebutt online as well as truenet results, I'm thinking of switching to Snap for the next two years.

Would existing users recommend this change, based on your own experiences of Snap?

One change would be the UFB router; we have a Cisco from Orcon, would have to switch to Snap's custom box. Are we likely to regret this?

Hi Tony,

We use Snap at the office on 100mbps fibre, and I have the same at home. Wouldn't consider another ISP for a second.

Good example. Snap have a WLG POP so it would be fairly decent down there. Definitely my choice out of the 2.

Snaps service is great, i have never had issues with their connection itself.

The fritzbox is a solid device too, there are a few quirks that pop up in a few firmwares, but snap seem to have squashed them now!

Ild choose snap straight off the bat. no questions about it.

I imagine depending on your scale and network setup, you might not need their box. Really you can terminate the fibre connection on any bit of hardware thats going to do VLAN10 with PPPoE. Or you can have the interface untagged, so this the VLAN tag isnt required either. But if you're talking a P2P fibre link then I think it's a different story again, and possibly even easier to terminate.

Have a chat to the snap business guys and find out the specifics.

Could always hold out for another month until BigPipe launch their UBF product. Their customer service seems to be very responsive, service quick and given they don't force any contracts you can always vote with you feet as needed.

Of course the usual business orientated ISPs are out there too, Vibe, Unleash, Voyager, Etc

*edit* apologies, thought this was in the open section and not under a specific ISP...

We use 100/50 Snap UFB in our office, has been great. Support is good as well (although haven't used them much). We have the unlimited youtube/google addon as well, which is good (50GB free this month so far).

I am also considering the same (ORCON UFB to SNAP UFB) and would love to hear your experience. The thing that bothers me about the whole process so far in my investigations is that according to the sign up page if I have UFB with another provider I have to disconnect with them first god knows how long that will take, and then I will be without a connection until Snap get me connected.
