I would be interested to know if anyone else is being hit by this?

A bit of background:

My business is on contract with 2 Degrees for our mobiles, we are on the unlimited plan.

Every month, without fail I get the following text:

"To help stop fraud please quickly confirm you're a real person using this account. Text TALK to 233 now to keep talking."

Naturally, the first time I received this text I ignored it, I didn't give it a second look. It sounded exactly like a automated message fishing for active numbers.
A few days later and my phone cuts off, mid call to a client. I tried to call them back and got a automated message telling me I had to verify I was human. I quickly went through the text process to get back up and going again!

Needless to say, I am not happy. Every month I get one of these texts and every month I MUST reply within a reasonable time frame or I get cut off. This is not what I signed up for!

I am a high volume caller, that is why I am using the Unlimited plan. For the last 3+ months I have been verifying I am human. Surely there could be a few more smarts to the system, identifying if one looks to be a bot or not? I don't have a very predictable pattern.

To top it all off, the confirmation is always the same, a automated system could be programmed to automatically respond to the quoted message, when received. It all seems to be rushed out without a lot of thought.

Just curious, how many minutes do you use per month?

Which plan are you on?

People are abusing the 2degrees plans using them as CTUs for cheap calls.

As for an automated system easily bypassing it - that's not quite so simple. 99% of people who use CTUs would be using them in voice only devices, so won't be getting the SMS message.

The threshold for this message is also set pretty high.. Who do you speak to for so many minutes per month?

Unlimited plan.

Unfortunately I cannot tell, as everything is stated as "unlimited" for usage.

I would estimate it to be around 900 minutes.

I assume this is a business plan not a consumer one?

Not exactly relevant, but it is a business plan.

It is entirely relevant as a high volume on a Business unlimited plan is somewhat more expected when compared with consistantly high volumes on a consumer plan.

Well then, you are underestimating. :-) As mentioned by Steve, this is a measure in place as a speed bump for people who are using the service in ways we do not intend. It is not aimed at you personally. All you have to do is reply to the SMS, and you're good to go again.

So, we apologise for the inconvenience, but it is a necessary step to protect the network from abuse.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

Based on the feedback I got from somebody who was abusing this service and using it with a CTU (and having the very same issue) I think you're seriously underestimating your usage!

If you're on an android device couldn't you just get an app to auto reply to the text when it arrives?

I possibly am, it is hard to tell when everything is marked as unlimited. Not that it matters, since it is, unlimited.

We'll since I am apparently a extremely high user I will try and be more forgiving. I realize there is not always an easy answer to these issues.

A few thoughts:
It would be nice if there was a way to white list people that obviously have a legitimate high usage scenario.
Instead of sending a text, a option for a pop up  human vertification from the "Your 2Degrees" app would be hugely welcomed, as it takes away most of the hassle.

I currently have a iPhone, so at present I cannot, otherwise I would!

Cant The telco tell what type of device the sim issued in?
Surely my iPhone network updates are aimed at my phone specifically because you can too it IS an iPhone?

However, perhaps an add onto the 2D app would 'authenticate' the device instead too...
