Interesting campaign, wonder if it will get much attention.

What site are they referencing for comparison, and what overseas sites would stream full coverage of the sort of the various sports that New Zealanders commonly watch (eg International Rugby, Cricket, as well as regional games and other sports).

I'm curious, through what site do they currently stream games for overseas viewers for $7?

Pretty much all the NZ international rights for NZ rugby are tied up in the 5 year SANZAR deal with news Corp, that runs through to 2016 (worth $400 million USD in 2009)

Orcon are dreaming if they think they will convince the NZRU to go out on its own on any deal, (last time I looked games usually had two teams playing)

If Orcon ponied up with $200 million USD the Rugby union might want to talk about a long term contract

But simply running this sort of PR campaign is silly...

lol, they basically copied the whole concept behind Slingshot's 'front-up' site just with one cause, and failed to provide any reference (which slingshot at least did).  Lucky they have the same owners.

ETA:  And unlike slingshot, They also didn't even make any sort of attempt to do a genuine apples with apples comparison.
I hat sky just as much as anyone, but this is ridiculous.

The Sky fee of $99 includes the rugby, loads and loads of other sports, a pvr, and the basic  channel package with dozens of other channels for that fee.

The overseas comparison is JUST for the rugby, absolutely nothing else.  (I assume this is the case, they don't actually give ANY detail on the site, which is also ridiculous)

Very misleading if that's the case. The "comparison" makes it sound like people in other countries can watch all ABs games streamed live for $7 per game from one convenient site.

The negotiations for the next round of rights are happening right now, so we’re hoping to get Kiwis on board to support the NZRU to give us a choice – pay Sky or stream it direct.

If you’re happy paying $99 a month to Sky and love all the channels and features you get for that, we don’t want to stand in your way. But if you agree we should have the right to watch the rugby and pay a fair price for just the rugby, then the petition’s a way to be heard.

SANZAR and the NZRU explain their broadcasting rights, including which countries get to stream the games, here: http://www.sanzarrugby.com/superrugby/match-centre/broadcast-guide/

So you are comparing it to livesport.tv?  Why not mention that on your site?  Just seems dumb to leave it off.

BTW - is livesport.tv included in Global Mode?
