Why is there a difference in the 500mb data pack between prepay and PostPay (300mb/$10 vs 500mb/$10) when all the other data packs are the same price?

$10/500mb is my personal 'sweet spot' but I currently need to buy it through my wife's postpay shared data rather than just getting it directly on my own prepay account - somewhat of a pain when I run out of our combined data and have to ring her to get the bigger pack AT THE SAME PRICE?

That's a really good question. I never noticed because I buy a value pack every month and I'm rolling in rollover data, but it seems a bit weird that it's just that undoubtedly most popular pack that's...

...oh, never mind. I just figured it out.

Legit question.. Same company, same overheads, same payment, different data allocation...

Why will I get less data if I pay UPFRONT than if I (in my wife's bill) pay later?

No, legit answer. It's their most popular pack, it's probably the one most customers on prepay will buy, so it's natural that they'll make it more expensive. Vodafone have a better deal on prepay data ($12 for 500mb), and Spark charge $15 for 500mb on prepay and postpay.

So I guess either ask 2degrees to change it or play the market and churn to one of the others if you're not happy.

As a 2D postpay account customer, I appreciate that my loyalty is rewarded with a better deal for casual data. I'd expect their costs would be less as it would just get added to my account, rather than handling lots of pesky $10 credit card transactions.
