Are Orcon capturing all DNS requests with Global mode.

If I try to request DNS via 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 or 208.67.222.220 or 208.67.222.222  it always returns the same result as Orcon's DNS servers

Yea that sounds about right since devices like Roku wouldn't work without it.

You can tell what the IP address of the resolver is with a test like this:

Anything with dig
dig +short porttest.dns-oarc.net TXT
You can add @serveripaddress to specify a server.

Or nslookup
nslookup -querytype=TXT -timeout=10 porttest.dns-oarc.net.
you can append a server ip to the end of this to specify a server.

You will get an output that contains the IP used by the resolver to fulfil the query.
Most times this wont be the IP you have set as the ip of the DNS server.
Changing the server you query should show different IPs, if it doesnt switch...

Whois on the IP is your friend.

Hope that helps.

I understand that Global Mode affects certain Google DNS queries (due to Chromecast) but shouldn't be interfering with OpenDNS.

Regardless of this, most queries will of course return the same results, traffic is only redirected for very specific hostnames to assist with geo-unblocking.

So it looks like OpenDNS is working OK, but I can't use Google's DNS servers.

Issue is setting up a NowTV from the UK requires  different DNS rules from Orcon's Global Mode as it isn't a standard Roku

You can have global mode disabled if it's causing problems.  Or if you use a DNS service other than ours or Google, then Global mode doesn't interfere with those.  So you can always set your device to use OpenDNS for example, and leave your defaults on the router.
