I'm struggling to work out what the Fibre TV addon actually is for $15/month. It lists a bunch of services like Hulu, Netflix, etc, but then says you have to subscribe to them individually. It seems to me it is essentially just $15/month for the 'global mode' type offerings that Slingshot and Orcon offer free. Third-party services such as UnblockUS are half the price or less (mostly around US$5/mo). So, what exactly does the FibreTV service offer for it's price?

It's free.  On our residential services, you can't pay for it at this point in time, and if you sign up now, it's free for life.  And we have some features the other guys don't.  For one, we have an official list of unblocked sites.  A portion of which are up on the web site.  The idea being that trying something and hoping it works is different than seeing a list you can explore, to more easily connect you with unblocked traffic.

That, and it's free (for now), not $15.  That was  a price picked to be in line with what the service was worth when it was started back before Global Mode existed.  And someone told me that Global Mode was also $10 or $15 when it launched, but nobody ever paid that for it.

Our initial wording on the trial and what's included was poor, and that should be cleaned up now, so that it's clear that Fibre TV is free, not $15.

Just noticed MyRepublic has updated their website and removed the line that says Fibre TV is worth $15 per month. It's also alot clearer now stating that Fibre TV and Voice is free forever if you sign up before 15 Nov. Oh man, if Fibre was connected in my area now I would sign up...

If you register, there is no "obligation" at all.  Anyone who registers will never be charged with anything, unless they decide later to purchase the service.  You may get an email when the service is available, or other such communication, but if you never take our service, you'll never get charged.

So does that mean if you sign up after 15th of November you will be charged for it?

Will I be able to watch netflix etc on my roku 3 as I do now, current ISP has a global mode.
Or do I need to use my laptop to watch netflix through My Republic website?

If I finally understood their website terms lately, I'm pretty sure you can as this "global mode" is configured at the ISP (MyRepublic) level.

Hi, don't know where you heard that because it's completely wrong, global mode was a free service from launch. The only difference between then and now is it's now opt out instead of opt in.

It's free.  On our residential services, you can't pay for it at this point in time, and if you sign up now, it's free for life.  And we have some features the other guys don't.  For one, we have an official list of unblocked sites.  A portion of which are up on the web site.  The idea being that trying something and hoping it works is different than seeing a list you can explore, to more easily connect you with unblocked traffic.

At http://www.myrepublic.co.nz/add-ons/fibre-tv/pricing it says "Enjoy 3 Months Free Fibre TV" and "Looking to give Fibre TV a try? Every new residential MyRepublic customer gets 3 months of full Fibre TV access free!" which is confusing as it still makes it appear that you only get the 3 months of fibre tv free, and after that you have to start paying for it. Same with voice at http://www.myrepublic.co.nz/add-ons/voice, it states that voice is "FREE for 3 months. Usually $10 per month." which conflicts the free voice forever offer on other parts of the website.

Another thing, when you say that fibre tv and voice are free for the lifetime of the service for any new sign ups, will this offer continue indefinitely or will there be a point that you start charging new users for fibre tv and voice?

That wording is old, and should have been changed.  The details of the launch promotion weren't set until just before launch, and wording on that is not consistent with the rest.  Next week sometime I'll get that fixed.  It's too late to trust myself making edits.  And I have plans for the holiday weekend.

The Fibre TV and voice are free for as long as you remain a customer.  They will not be charged after the 3 months, for those that sign up or register during the promotional period.
