Snap emailed me yesterday, from your base plan spend $10 to go unlimited and since you spend $15 for 100GB a extra data a month you save $5 a month. Just sign up for another 24 months.

I was already to go - yeah, lets do it
But then stopped because while I have no issues with Snap and I don't see myself moving any time soon, I just have an uneasy feeling of being "locked in" for 24 months.

After going through the plan chooser, I also found that the wiring maintenance has been combined with broadband maintenance and so my true saving a month is $4 (which is still $96 over 2 years, basically a month free).

So while I figure out if I do want to lock myself in, I ask - do you prefer open term or does being locked in not matter ??

I prefer open term.

2 years is a long time...things change rapidly in this day and age...

Personally ild say its not normally worth it.

Snap are the one ISP that ild gladly say sure to a new contract with however.

They do well to look after you and in my experience when there is actually a problem they will go the nth degree to get it sorted!

Their network is also solid!

Wouldn't sign up for 2 years with any ISP... Im happy to enter a contract for 12 months and have done for the last few years... everytime the contract ends I find a better plan with a different ISP. :)

If you look at unlimited plans, they all cost around the same thou one may be cheaper this month, then another next month...

you also need to consider when is fibre coming to your street because that will mean all new options for you too...

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

cheaper unlimited doesnt always mean 'better'

Last i Checked, Snap will gladly upgrade you to UFB while on contract already.

Agree that things change fast in this industry!

We think we've now got a few runs on the board of looking after our existing customers, so if things change for the better then we give them the option to change.

Upgrading to a new/better infrastructure isn't counted as breaking contract, neither is moving house.

It's up to you of course, but since we sent the e-mail we've been flooded with our existing cusomters re-commiting, so plenty of people think its a pretty good deal!

Snap have upgraded my data cap at least once since I signed up. I committed to 24 months as it was cheaper that way. All in all I can't see myself moving ISPs.

I am nearing the end of a 2-year contract with my ISP (which shall remain nameless).
Over that time my plan has been "upgraded" four times, and now bears little resemblance to what I started with.
Most of these changes have been for the better, bar one (the price).
The cost of early termination would be high.
I'll change to a cheaper plan - possibly with the same ISP - as soon as I'm out of contract.

2 years is a long time in the IT world.

No disrespect to your ISP.

I wouldnt either. Things change too much.

ISP get sold. (Clear, IHUG) split up spark/telecom

Usually any fix price offer has fine print in it which allows the company you have signed up for to change the terms if they wish.

Google will show you examples of companies raising phone costs and electricity prices on plans where customers thought they had signed up to fixed prices because hidden in the fine print was an out clause for the companies to change the terms and conditions.

Look at the deals that sky give new customers that they dont give to existing customers.

Keep your signup to 1 year to keep your ISP (or phone provider) on their toes to keep your business.

Reading the T&C, the only part I don't like is that the cost of the unlimited plan at the end of 2 years, will be what ever it is in 2 years ...
That does scare me .. but again, I'm not really sure why.

snap are simply priced appropriately for what they offer imo.

i look into it a little more than simply unlimited data for X when i make that judgement however.

I have signed up for another 2 yrs for Lightwave 100/20 unlimited for $95.
I know bigpipe will be cheaper when available in CHCH next year but SNAP has provided me with excellent service and technical support so happy to support the local company
