Hello,

I have been a 2degrees account customer for a long time now and I reside in the leamington area of Cambridge. I have found 2degrees great to deal with and think they are great. Unforntately since living in leamington me and my partner and even friends have great difficulty in getting reception even with Vodafone also, so spark is the only provider that gets good reception. Leamington is not out in the country it is a good sized town area.

At my home I have wifi so Internet is not the issue while at home however I miss most phone calls and get a txt about 5 minutes later saying I've missed a call, this can be frustrating especially if it's important, if I do manage to make a call or receive one its just far to hard to communicate. I have a friend who lives a few blocks away and I get no reception whatsoever not even one bar I have another friend further down and I can get 2 bars usually, but cannot use Internet and send iMessages etc. on the Cambridge side of town their is a 2degrees tower and I work on this side of town and get full reception and it's absolutely great no fault at all.

I have had a iPhone 4s and 5s and have had the same issues, friends have other phones and still experience the problem, I have spoken to 2degrees not long ago and they were very helpful and guided me through trying different settings on my phone however none helped. They couldn't tell me if them or Vodafone were planning on putting in a new tower in the near future unfornately.

I have got to the point were I can't stand it much longer so I'm going to contact 2degrees once more and see if they can help, if they can't unfornately I will have to go to spark which I don't want to do but the problem is I have about 8 months left on my contract I think I am on a $49 plan and will get charged a early termination fee. My question is because I am not getting a full satisfaction and can't hardly use my service whilst I am at home am I entitled to get the termination fee waived? I have heard of Vodafone doing this for a customer.

I rely on my phone a lot like most people these days and expect that I should be able to get contacted at anytime especially from work and if we have a call out at night etc.

Some help/guidance/tips would be a great help.

Thanks, Taylor

No you dont get to get out of your contract just because there is not good service at home.

_unless_ you specifially asked about coverage at that location and were told that it would be sweet, as sales people always over promise things that they cannot guarentee to seal the deal. But if you only have 8 months left you have probably left it too long to get out of it.

Vodafone would be a good option with a suresignal to deliver coverage over your DSL or fiber connection. But that does mean you are putting all your communication eggs in the one basket which is why if it really is that important to you that you can be reached you should probably just get a phone on spark if they deliver coverage that works well enough, and have a landline as a secondary backup for the mobile.

Ah okay, frustrating really

Was just looking at all their websites it is bit cheeky how they state how much coverage they have, when it's not realistically that much.

I would expect this coverage out in the rural country etc, but not in town and from both Vodafone and 2degrees

There are a few "larger" towns like this with only one tower serving a large area. Tokoroa is the same. very busy Vodafone site, where Spark have 3 sites.
But then you'll still find many places where its the other way round; e.g. Waima/Laingholm (West Auckland) has both 2degrees & Vodafone, but no Spark.

Theres 3 2degrees towers in Cambridge, unfortunately most of them are concentrated over the cambridge side of town, whereas Leamington only gets serviced by the COW and if they are up high enought, the one up on Maungakawa hill.  Leamington really needs its own cellphone tower over here.  Spark have put up a new one in Leamington, which is why Spark coverage is good on this side (bar the side affects of knocking out a dozen or so tvs reception).  the best way to fix this would be for a 2degrees tower on this side please! :)

We have recently removed the COW and built a fixed site in Leamington.

If you're having issues please PM us the details including -
Your number
Phone make/model (do you have the same issue with your SIM in another phone or other 2degrees SIM in your phone).
When the issue started? (Has it always been an issue or from a certain date?)
Time/date of network fade/call drops/missing texts
What was showing on screen at the time in regards to network signal, R, E, H, H+, R3G etc and signal strength bars?
Were you connected to 2degrees or on our roaming network?
The exact location(s) with street names and numbers.

Thanks

You say you have a fixed site in leamington? I don't think that's correct is it... you have recently just put a fixed site on the Cambridge site of town...

Leamington reception for 2degrees and Vodafone is poor, really disappointing that some of us will be pushed to go spark :/

Ahh The removal of the COW explains the dropping out of my signal at home.  The only new one in the area i know of is located in the same area as 2 spark towers and a vodafone tower and thats still over the cambridge side.  Id love to know where in Leamington the new tower is supposed to be, considering the SMART database only shows 3 towers in cambridge (one being the recently removed COW) and none in leamington.

I live in Wordsworth street in Leamington and came across this post while looking for a reason why my email keeps on dropping off. Signal strength has dropped slightly from 4-5 bars to 3-5 bars recently but not sure exactly when. The COW  was at the Cambridge exchange in Wilson street. Exactly where is the replacement site ?

that's by the testing station by the lake which probably accounts to the good coverage in the sub division by the old freezing works /refuse transfer station in Leamington. The old coverage map showed coverage in Wordsworth st down to Scott st corner but the new one shows no coverage. I find 5bar coverage up by the Cosie club in Burns street so I think the coverage map needs looking at and some antenna tuning needs looking at.

Is The Cosie club  the Spark site?

Yep the cossie club is the Spark site that caused headaches with the tv reception issues.  There needs to be one up the far end of leamington, to cover the rest of leamington.  The higher areas of leamington seem to be getting reasonable reception as far back as browning street
