Hi,

A colleague and I both are finding we cannot access Sony services (Music Unlimited, Playstation app) while on 2Degrees 3G/4G network.  The apps work fine when attached to home or work wifi.  I'm using an S5 on 2Degrees and S4 on Spark and the same apps work fine on the S4, and work fine when I put the Spark SIM into the S5.

To recreate the problem, use the Android Sony Music Unlimited, Playstation app or a Vita tethered via Wifi to try to login to your PSN account.  The login will always fail.  I think the api and/or account.sonyentertainment.com sites are being blocked based on our inability to access those sites from the browser.

I just loaded hola unblocker on my phone and I find that I can access the sony sites with the Hola VPN enabled.

I don't know if this is Sony's working or 2Degrees, but it seems to coincide with 2Degrees new offer to offer google music to their subscribers, which of course is a competitor to Sony Music Unlimited. Maybe it's just me be paranoid :D

Have a dual sim S5 and the Spark sim loads the PSN store instantly but the 2 Degrees sim simply won't load it.

P.S. Whilst testing this ended up spending $119 on a game so thanks for that JasonSNZ

Something to do with Sony being hacked?

No problem loading nz.playstation.com/psn/ here but don't have a login.

Good to see that it's not just the two of us here that are having the problem.  My colleague has logged an issue with 2Degrees, but they had no idea as well.

So, what game did you get?  If you haven't yet, get Dragon Age Inquisition, awesome thus far. :)

I don't think it's related to the hack, as the service is fully functional on all other services I've tested besides 2Degrees.

I'd log a call to Sony with the details of the external/public IPs that are failing.

traceroute to  account.sonyentertainment.com ? i dunno seems weird but i've heard of 2degrees having issues accessing some other sites due to broken routes with their uplink provider...not sure on this one what the cause would be but that is the only thing i can think off...

Yeah, I tried a traceroute but didn't get far with the app I used. So much that I will try again tomorrow with a different setup or rooted phone. May even try a TCP dump on the rooted phone if I can.

We'll get back to you when we hear more.

lol @ raise the issue with sony.

anyway...why don't you just tether your phone to your pc and run the traceroute from command prompt and then paste back here? if you can't log in via only a 2degrees ip address its not sonys fault. everyone else can log in fine, why would that be sonys issue?

Look at it this way - every other site works fine on 2degrees, why wouldn't it be a Sony issue? Plus Sony have just been through a major security breach, reasonable that they might have tightened up a few things here and there.

it's possible but i wouldn't think it was related, sony have no reason to block just one provider and even if it wasn't intentional it wouldn't just be 2degrees.

Hi,

I finally got some more time to look into this.  I tethered my phone to my laptop and was able to get a good traceroute.  Looks like they're routing traffic through prolexic, most likely because of the DDOS bull going on lately, and then it goes dark and I never get a response after unknown.prolexic.com. Not uncommon, so no worries there because at least I know I'm getting past 2Degrees networks.

More significantly I was able to get a dump with wireshark and see that I'm actually able to reach account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com, but it's failing to secure the SSL session.  TCP retransmit on client hello with a reset not long after.   Same trace using my Voda/TCL home connection works fine.   So, yes it seems it's something on Sony's side not allowing access from 2Degrees networks.  Perhaps 2Degrees networks have been identified as a source of some of the DDOS and summarily blocked (?), not 2Degrees fault certainly.

I will try to get in contact with Sony support as well, though I think it helps that 2Degrees has gone to them.

Thanks.
