our small business office has got a PBX in a Flash installed on a virtual box in the cloud(which is Auckland Data center). And our office are using UFB Fiber with Orcon.

From yesterday, our phone system suddenly playing up. It rings when there is a incoming call, but we just could not pick up. even between extensions would be the same situation. But we can call out no problem. I've tried using my mobile with SIP phone APP through 4G data(which is not in our LAN), it works perfect every single time.

I guess it's the orcon Genius router problem, it doesn't route properly (but the internet is working fine).
Now, my questions are:

1. can i do something with the firewall setting or other settings to fix this issue?
2. if i can not, can i use 3 party router to connect with Orcon UFG Fiber services?

Thanks Guys.

Use a port other than 5060 - 5080 on your equipment, eg 6000.  This fully bypasses any built in SIP ALG which is known to interfere with other services.  Unfortunately you can't fully disable it.  DO NOT disable the firewall on the unit.

Yes you can, note however that we won't provide support for 3rd party routers (ie. if your service is not working we may ask you to reinstate the provided router as a troubleshooting step).

If you're on a business service with us, we may be able to provide a managed router (at additional cost) which will better fit your needs.  Best to contact your account manager if that's something you are interested in.

Sounds like a classic SIP ALG issue.

Thank you very much for your help.
I've changed SIP server port from 5060 to 6000 (and the same change on PBX extension setting), and it still the same problem.
I did not change the outbound Proxy server port though. (it's still 5060)

So, issue remains, any ideas? Cheers,

Are the handsets configured for NAT?  That's all I can think of, otherwise you may have to work with whoever sold you the PABX solution.

No, the handsets are not configured for NAT. Should they?

Given they're behind a NAT, yes.  Worth a try at least.

in order to do this do I need to setup a STUN server on the PBX server? Thanks

STUN isn't usually necessary.  It's more about the phone creating outbound connections before expecting inbound connections, and in the case of SIP, refreshing the registration more often to keep the NAT pinhole open.

The Genius does NAT, there's only one IP address on the outside (Internet) and it doles out private addresses, and then performs NAT (Network Address Translation) so that the internal equipment can access the Internet.  Technically it is what's called NAPT (Network Address and Port Translation) because there is only one external address and multiple internal addresses.
