I'm getting a lot of reports from my Christchurch users that coverage in Christchurch is terrible (when compared to Vodafone) - especially out East and up the port hills.

Has anyone else found this?

I haven't used Vodafone but I do use 2Degrees in Christchurch and haven't had any issues.

I live just off Pages Road, near New Brighton and i have no problem with 2 degrees, i don't get 4G where i am though.

I have had no problems with 2degrees coverage in north west Christchurch. Can't really compare to Vodafone though as I haven't been with them since 2009.

VF/2degrees have no service out in Taylors Mistake while Telecom has a cell site there. This is the only coverage advantage Telecom has that I know of. There's probably more that locals might be more aware of though...

Suburban Eastern Christchurch (at least as far as Sumner/Lyttelton) seems to be pretty good on 2degrees from my limited observation. Haven't had much time in the more rural parts though.

Are people observing coverage (i.e. no signal) issues or is it more to do with capacity (e.g. signal available but slow data or difficulty making calls)?

Coverage is what I'm being told, but that goes against the 2Degrees coverage maps and what I've been told here. PEBKAC is the likely issue, but not being down there I wanted some reliable opinions.

Happy 2degrees customer but for no 4g in most of town (despite map - we have tried various phones and none get 4g really other than near Riccarton). Calls consistently drop when handing over on towers on Southern Motorway in Addington area and trying to go to Rolleston on hands free will be a 50/50 miss.

Really do wish the 4g rollout was better than it is. Considered going to Spark but in the end none of the above were dealbreakers.

To the OP

It your friends are having issues we'd like to know about it. Please get them to call Care on 0800 022022 with specific details including -

Exact details on what's happening, i.e. dropped calls/data, delayed texts, no coverage etc
Times/dates and locations of the occurences
Where the other number was (if possible)
What signal if any was showing at the time

Make sure they check their settings -
Network mode is on Auto connect (LTE/WCDMA/GSM or GSM/WCDMA)
What happens if they select WCDMA only or GSM only?
Network operator in on Automatic (not locked to 2degrees)
Data roaming is turned on

Try the SIM in a different phone (in case may work on different frequencies)

I get excellent coverage at work including 4G but only average coverage at home with only 3G but am told I'm about to get 4G at home.

I'm at Swannanoa (near tram rd/2 chain road intersection) and Voda/2 degrees reception is of the "hold your tongue the right way while standing on a chair" kind, while Spark has 5 bars.. A shame since I'm a happy snap customer and would have liked to become a snap/2 degrees customer, but suspect I'll have no choice but Spark.

In East Christchurch near Gloucester Street. Reception is good. I think they have a cell tower nearby.
