I'm trying to use a mikrotik RB750GL with my orcon connection. I'd ideally like the WAN IP to be on an interface of the mikrotik router, and just use the orcon white modem to authenticate the connection. Can this be done ? I don't want to use the firewall on the orcon modem, or the NAT (or anything else).

I was hoping i could put the orcon modem into bridged mode, but i can't seem to find out if it can do that (and in turn, how to do that).

Does anyone know if the orcon white modem (netcomm) can relenquish all firewall/NAT duties to anouther device, and just perform authentication ? Failing that, do you know a device that can so on an orcon connection ?

Simple answer is no - because that's not how bridge mode works.

I'm assuming right now you're on ADSL or VDSL2 - in which case the modem would act as a bridge and all authentication would be done by the Mikrotik.

Yes it can be done, but first all you'd need to get your PPP details. I'm not sure if Orcon give these out because they don't provide any support for 3rd party hardware. You may have to extract them from your device.

The mikrotik does not support pppoa, so i'd still need something to authenticate the ppp connection.

I've got my ppp details by unhiding the password in the orcon modem's UI.

As you're standard ADSL2+ you need an ISP that supports EUBA PPPoE (I don't think Orcon do) or you need to buy a Draytek DV120 or DV130 to handle the PPPoA/PPPoE conversion.

The old way was to use a modem that supports half bridge, but that's a hack that should really be avoided. If you want things setup how you want them, you'll need to accept you need to the buy the appropriate hardware (a Draytek) for the job.

Sitting on my desk is a linksys AM200 which supports half bridge, which i've been keeping around in case i needed it.

I can get that onto the connection and put the mikrotik onto the dmz address, but it'll all go sideways once ipv6 is rolled out (it isnt now on orcon, right?).

I don't mind buying something that i know will work. So i might look into the drayteks. Could you explain the roll of pppoe in that setup (and pppoa-pppoe bridge for that matter).

PPPoE should work on Orcon EUBA. Just need to change the PVC settings to 0.110 from 0.100

Doesn't work on UCLL yet.
