I've been with Vodafone since April 1999 (Ihug back then).
These days though, their focus is all on deals with Sky. As I don't have Sky, I feel I'm not really their target customer any more and missing out on things.

I've spent a while moving emails across to a generic gmail account, so the switch shouldn't be too painful.
Being one of those types of customers who is uncomfortable with change, would the hassle of the move to Orcon be worth it ?

are you a VF HFC customer or ADSL/VDSL or UFB customer?
I am a HFC customer and its the only way I can get high speed broadband until circa 2019

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

ADSL, we won't be getting UFB for quite some time.
I think we could get VDSL but as above, too much hassle to switch.

Some ISPs love their customers to be "uncomfortable with change" - that's how they get away with a lot of things :)

I've been on ADSL with Orcon and with Vodafone - at one stage I was on both.
ADSL is ADSL. VSDSL is VDSL. An ISP switch will make no difference.
Service is service.  In my experience Orcon's customer service is much better than Vodafone's.

Why are you afraid of VDSL?
Provided that you pass the "prequal" test for VDSL, I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade, probably with Orcon.

I had been with VF since the ihug days as well, I had a couple of nightmare issues more recently with VF customer service, the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing and I finally threw in the towel and switched to slingshot, very happy with my new provider.

Surely it comes down to price and services against customer service and ADSL peak-time line speeds
I'd shop around for prices (looking at the package the offer) and then think about how much you need customer support.
You may find that their combo packages are cheaper and you don't need to call support (so don't care about prices)

Being in the Orcon section I assume your real question is "Is Orcon better then Vodafone" - I use Snap so can't offer an opinion having never tried Orcon.
Have a look at https://www.truenet.co.nz/ to compare ISP's performance

Thanks for the replies.
I'm on an unlimited plan, and the overall difference in price between providers isn't enough to force a change on its own.
The biggest factor is that all the Vodafone incentives/bonuses are geared around sky services.

A speed improvement to VDSL might be nice, but not essential.
I'll do something, but so far the "Its not broken, so don't fix it" mentality wins.

I can recommend Snap. Unlike many providers if they provide good deals for new customers (eg plans with more data) they roll it out to existing customers too. My data limit has increased once or twice in the past year, for the same money. On Vodafone when prices went down for new customers they only reduce it for existing customers if asked/pushed.
