I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 phone. It supports 4G and that worked fine with Vodafone. It has never worked on 2degrees. I only get 3G service at best.

I've has several conversations with them over the past 2-3 weeks and I am now sick of the excuses and run arounds.

1. It's a 4G handset, for the untempth time.

2. It does not show 4G anywhere, not even Auckland and Wellington

3. There is no LTE option under settings

4. It worked fine on Vodafone

5. Pulling the battery out yet again does nothing. Is there any part of "It does not connect with 4G" they don't understand?

6. There is no software upgrades according to either the Android OS or Samsung help desk.

While it is a lot quicker to get ahold of 2degrees tech support, they don't have a clue obviously else the issue would have been fixed by now. Their website claims they support 4G and this is what I want.

Hopefully someone here is better informed please.....

If it's an older Vodafone supplied handset, it may have 4G locked out for other carriers.

It's a current model. I bought it brand new last year. It is not 'locked' as such, but can they 'lock' 4G only?

No, they can't lock 4G only. Does data work on 3G only?

Yes.

I have just tried a Vodafone SIM in the phone and it now gives me an option for "LTE/WCDMA/GSM" under "Network Mode". With 2degrees it only offers "WCDMA/GSM".

Are you absolutely sure you are on a 2degrees coverage area? If you are by any chance roaming on Vodafone then 2degrees won't offer 4G.

Where I live it roams to Vodafone, but I do not get 4G anywhere.

Way back when there were numerous Samsungs that wouldn't allow 2degrees 4G until a firmware update fixed the configuration. You can probably find the thread here on GZ.

That is one of the lines 2degrees has tried but I contacted Samsung and they advise 4G on this handset is a hardware matter and no software update is necessary.

My patience with 2degrees has well and truly run out. It's a freaken Samsung Galaxy. It's entirely their responsibility to know what they are doing and make it work.

Ok, so where you live you will never get 2degrees 4G then.

First check there's no firmware updates available as suggested by Scott. Then I suggest next time you are in a 2degrees 4G area you turn aeroplane mode ON and restart the phone. Once the phone starts turn aeroplane mode off and see if it latches into 2degrees and identifies the available services correctly.

I wouldn't discard the firmware update. Samsung support is not the most knowledgeable around here.

All of this has been throughly covered above and with 2degrees.

No, it hasn't. You have not mentioned before that you tried turning the handset off or moving into a 2degrees coverage.

You are ignoring advice. I am out of here.

Yes I have. All in the first post.

As I said, the only lines they know are to blame the coverage, tell customer to restart phone and then blame the handset.

When all that's covered, they have nothing more.
