With many of NZ ISP's now offering Global Mode (the ability to access online content from other countries), will Snap ever utilise this in their plans?

I hope not. Its something that I wouldnt use and would rather they spend there money on bandwidth and handovers.

It's really trivial to use something like Unblock-us or Unotelly for $5 or less per month, or Hola is even free.

each of those services are orders of magnitude better than any ISP's global mode service.

e.g. All three have had working region switcher for Netflix for over 2 years now. When NEtflxi launched in Oz and NZ, it was updated the same day.
Slingshot and orcon are struggling to implement theirs, and can't even decide whether it's better to default to NZ Netflix or USA Netflix (slingshot defaults to NZ, Orcon defaults to USA)

Unblock-us etc also have full support for a multitude of devices, and excellent customer service. The ISP provided one is very light on help (they don't even publish a list of supported sites!).

Imagine all the idiots trying to use 'global mode', and failing, and this causing thousands of lengthy phone calls to Snap as they walk them through setting up Netflix, which get in the queue ahead of the genuine support calls.

It's just a terrible idea IMHO. Please don't do it Snap (and if 2Degrees suggest it, tell them to stick to what they know)

Global Mode is also problematic for any ISPs implementing the Netflix OpenConnect program.

if i remember , this was asked of Snap a few months ago and they said it wast on the radar and they had other things that were more important in the works but they may look at it another time.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

hola is free and works fine. can easily change region for a particular web site.

they already make it easy, they allow you to access international web sites.

just like buying a car makes it easy to speed, it's up to the individual what they'll do.

Pretty sure that purchasing content from an overseas legitimate provider would be closer akin to parallel importing than pirating... just saying.

given the current legal uncertainty, no ISP is going to be stupid enough to add global mode until it all gets settled. (and if it gets settled that global moe is totally legit, then EVERY ISP will sell it (even spark I expect)
