Hi all,
Last week I got a Chromecast, and I'm having a few issues with trying to use it with Netflix. Not sure if it's an Orcon / GlobalMode / Router problem or not, but I'm starting here in the hope that someone may be able to help.
Basically, when I try to cast from my (Android) phone using the Netflix app, I'm probably going to get "Error 16004" reported on the app, and a blank (black) screen on the TV/Chromecast. Generally, same symptoms if I use Chrome Browser on my Macbook (Yosemite, if it matters) - black screen on TV, and eventually a timeout/error message in Chrome.
HOWEVER! If I simply reboot my Orcon White AND DO NOTHING ELSE, then it all "just works". For a while. And then it doesn't. Again. "Just works" means I can cast from the App; the NetFlix logo appears on the TV/Chromecast, and the viewing starts OK. US content via Global mode, no problem.
Note that I'm NOT using the WiFi on my Orcon White router (ethernet partitioning issues); so the Chromecast connects to another WiFi AP which is cabled into one of the Orcon's Ethernet ports. I'm fairly sure that wouldn't cause an issue, but you never know....
I'm a little at a loss to see what may be timing out or not working on the router, and why a router reboot fixes it; hence asking for help here.
Note that the Chromecast is powered via a USB port on the TV; so it gets regular reboots (each time I turn the TV off/on!); so if the Chromecast needs to do UPNP or some-clever-behind-the-scene-stuff to get ports open on the router's Firewall, it should be able to sort that at Chromecast poweron; I'm not saying it does, just theorizing.
Do any of the Orcon staff here have any suggestions and/or know anything about this problem?
Ta!
