Well yes according to the Speedtest.net stats they are going off this is correct, but it's not really a fair test to use results like this when you only support UFB. Where all the other ISP's are supporting connections down to someone on a congested Conklin cabinet.

Attract customers by providing a great service and building a good name for your self, not advertising which IMO is misleading.

Deceptive at best - they don't even offer the fastest nationally available speeds (200/x).

Yes, I am biased, but to push the point, if they had a Gigatown, and thats all they had....worlds best RSP by five country miles.

Well they're just pointing out what's obvious, that is it is rather misleading. No 200Mbps plan, no conklins to deal with, no rural offering whatsoever.

I notice Orcon are now advertising they're the "fastest fibre" provider based on Truenet results.

Considering MR only do fibre that's pretty much both claiming the same title using different data - and I know I'd trust the Truenet data over Ookla results.

You would think that advertising that they provide the fastest speed is highly mis-leading as they dont appear to offer the fastest 200mbps plan unlike Voda and Snap. It's taking the Ookla and Truenet results way out of context, maybe like a Ford dealer saying they sell the fastest cars in the country, but ignoring the fact that there are faster cars out there - but they just dont sell them. (Yeah maybe not the best analogy!)

It would come across to average consumers as they are basing it on a like to like comparason, but this is not the case at all.

I haven't looked at the metrics, I've only seen the banner ads and advertising that both are running.

I was actually going to look into this further and write a blog post, but simply don't have time at present.

Orcon are not in a position to show off.

Here is a chart from the TrueNet April 2015 Urban Broadband Report (#40), showing performance as a percentage of advertised speed:

VF cable (dotted red line) has the biggest peak traffic dip, followed by Orcon fibre (solid purple line).

yeah it confuses me too, since looking at the Truenet results for UFB for the last few months there is absolutely no way Orcon are the best for UFB, ADSL or VDSL.

Most recent report (for April) actually shows they have the worst UFB performance - at only 61% of peak speed on the 100Mbps plan or 89% on the 30Mbps plan - that's terrible!

the best performer, on Truenet, for the 30Mbps plan is clearly Spark (98%) , and the best performance for the 100Mbps plan is clearly Snap (94%) (MyRepublic come in at 80%, so they aren't the best either).
I don't see how anybody other than Snap or Spark could claim to be the fastest based on Truenet.

Not to mention Orcon do not even do 200Mbps plans either - crazy.

Hopefully we will soon have enough UFB probes to get some results. :)

We can argue about technicalities all day when it comes to these tests, but I too draw the conclusion that neither MR nor Orcon can really lay any claims to be the "fastest".

Ookla testing in particular is particularly prone to problems - just look at Vodafone's supposed (according to Spark) doctoring of mobile results for both networks to put Vodafone up, and Spark down.

I suspect they do this knowing that it will take a few weeks for anyone to complain about the ads, and a few more before anyone will do something about it.

Hopefully something truly awful will happen to them, like getting bought out by Vodafone.

Can you give us details of this "doctoring"? - it's news to me
