This has only started to happen in the last month. Every night after about 7:30pm my speed just turns to rubbish. I can't watch YouTube videos in hd or watch twitch streams without a constant buffer every 3 seconds! My sync speed is 25mbit down and 10 up but this is my speediest result https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/i/1272116632
Please help.
Thanks :)
- Andrew

If they offer to send out a tech - try and avoid it. With your sync rate vs speedtest, the issue isn't something that a tech can fix unless it's a bung port - and that should be the last thing to try, not the first.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

Thanks, I was reading up and I might ask them to do a port reset so the DSLAM can do its 10 day magic again.

Unlikely to be an issue with your tail speed. I work for an ISP and there has been a significant increase in backbone traffic over the last few months with the advent of Netflix, Lightbox etc.....

DLM isn't going to affect this. Your throughput is lower than your sync rate, so very unlikely to be a line issue.

Most probably congestion, what else is running on your network? Streaming / backups / anything else uploading in he background?

Nope, nothing else. When I do speed tests I make sure their is nothing else using the Internet. You do make a very good point about it most likely being congestion though. I'll see what orcon has to say.
Thanks

Just did another speedtest at about 1:30am and my speeds are back up to a solid 25mbit down and 10 up. That congestion must be one hell of a problem if it's getting to the point of VDSL being reduced to ADSL1 speeds :/

If it happens again for another night you might want to protest your issue in the mega thread I started on the 30th of march about a congestion issue

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=82&topicid=170919

Of course if it stays that way and stays fine then no need.

You can also follow me on twitter here @kiwifortw I do twitch streams every now and then at twitch.tv/kiwiforthewin :)

i would almost bet the congestion issue is chorus related, not orcon related

bigpipe and a few otjher ISP's had issues a few weeks back and chorus had to do a few tweaks but it came right.

keep reporting it through to orcon

I know if it's congestion it's a chorus problem because chorus owns the copper network. I will ask orcon if that's the problem and if they could pass it along to chorus in my area (I live in southland lol) It will be so good when I get ufb here.
