I applied for UFB installation with Snap in mid Dec 2014, and just got my latest update today that there's still no confirmed completion date for installation phase.
As I got told before, installation phase takes approximately 1 month, and a technician need to come in and connect, which takes another 2 weeks....
So the earliest expected date of completion is somewhere in August.....

Yup, I live in a MDU and it's an apartment. And I got told the installation may take a bit longer than usual in my case and expecting 3 months, but minimum 8 months?

Here are some key dates:
Applied on 17/12/2014
Modem received in a week
Consent forms completed and received by Snap on 20/1/2015.
Updated, building phase started may take a month for apartments on 26/1/2015
Email reply, no change for installation status 1/3/2015.
Email reply, no access to building causing delay 11/6/2015. (1 of my 2 my building managers are in the building almost 24/7

)
Email reply, in building phase, no expected date for completion 12/6/2015.

So, how long did it take to install yours? Anyone can break my 8 months record?

I really wish that Chorus would contact apartment blocks and do this stuff before an individual apartment owner (or tenant) requests it.

Surely it's common sense to just go ahead and do the infrastructure build via the bodycorp, then when customers request fibre it's a far faster process

My consent form from body-corp was received 4 months ago, it is just the building phase that took 4 months....so far

Took longer than 8 months for me, and this is at a building (MDU) without existing (well sufficient) copper lines so _nobody_ got landline so no ADSL/VDSL and everyone had to bum off the wifi provided for hotel guests (as the building is mixed with service apartments). Let me tell you how bad Freedom Wifi Internet is (it's like freedom from Internet), but I digress.

UFB was announced to be available May 2014, then pushed back to August 2014, then actually moved forward to July 2014 so I got signed up right away hoping for the best.

Body corporate already did all the consent beforehand as everyone is extremely annoyed with the lack of landline situation and UFB was the only solution, so consent was never an issue with my building.

Snap sent me the new Fritz box, reactivated my old account (I had with them back when I tenanted at a different building with VDSL) on 8 July

Body corporate announced that they spent $20k to get the building prepared for UFB some time towards end of the year that they had a vendor lined up to do it.

February 2015 is when they finally did started running fibre inside the building. According to building manager the job was done on 9 Feb 2015. Pestered Snap a bit and it turns out Chorus needed to finalize a lot of "paperwork" with regards to which line goes where.

Wasn't until 2 April that I got confirmation that Chorus is finally able to send someone to do the ONT installation.

So it was a bit more than 9 months from UFB being available at my building to Chorus finally getting everything hooked up for Snap to do the installation.

Edit: oh yeah, they did schedule it to 14 April but I was not available that day, it was rescheduled till 16 April.

Thanks heaps for the explanation! My apartment is probably having similar issues, I guess I ll just have to wait for a bit longer. It's really good to know that it may take 9 to 10 months or a bit longer, rather than having no clue at all.

Your bet would be correct. I can lay my hand on a dozen or more orders right now that are over 12 months old.

There are a variety of reasons - outstanding consent, complex network build requirements, LFCs awaiting building plans from the owners so they can do the design, council bureaucracy and red tape, building owners flip flopping on design approval which leads to multiple redesigns being required.

And it's not specifically a Chorus issue - it is happening with other LFCs as well.

To answer your question - you're nowhere even close to being near a record. Assuming you may get service soon, your timeframe is actually quick for a complex MDU install.
