I understand that CallPlus has just gotten Microsoft Lync certification for their SIP trunking.

Does anyone have SIP trunks through CallPlus? If so have you had any issues?

How would you rate it next to Spark Voice Connect SIP trunking?

i ran callplus trunks for a few years until I switched roles.  they were fine except for an issue with dual-forking of calls (sip referrers issue).  if that's been fixed then i'd have no complaints

Thanks for the reply. Can I ask what the issue was, did forking just not work?

Hi,

Yes, CallPlus has been certified with Skype for Business (Microsoft Lync). We’ve been deploying SIP Trunks for over 10 years now. One of the first in the NZ market.
Feel free to drop me a line on nikhil.maganlal@callplus.co.nz if you are keen to hear how we are different from other providers – and what our customers say about us.

Cheers

the dual forking would have one phone ring, but the cell fork (e.g. to spark mobile) would come up with an error - your call cannot be connected blah blah.  the caller would hear the error and hang up. I traced it to the sip trunks not handling the sip refer call flows properly, but never got a solution at the time - other than disabling dual fork.

I assume that this would have had to have been sorted in order to get lync/skype sip trunk certification.

other than that, the trunks worked great

Good to hear! Do you support direct connect to your service, or is a gateway required?

We have done CallPlus circuits without any issue, however we use SfB certified Session Border Controllers (SBC). If CallPlus trunks are now certified that may not be a requirement anymore, however Spark are also SfB certified but still require a SfB SBC on site.

Kordia is also an option for certified providers - I know for sure you can connect direct.

Based on my personal experience (I am a Lync/SfB consultant), my opinion is that Spark are the best SIP provider. Reasons:
- Most robust service I have seen (not seen a circuit go down yet)
- they provide detailed configuration guides so there is no messing around taking traces to get things going
- They can deliver any number in the country from a single trunk
- they provide enterprise fail over over routing for inbound and outbound calls

The only thing with Spark is they are a slow moving beast, and it can take some time to get a circuit provisioned or changes applied. However once install they are rock solid.

Hope that helps.

** Also worth making sure that the A-Party/Originating caller ID passthrough is supported - very useful feature that means if A calls B, then B forwards to C, C will see the A party caller ID presented.
