Looking at lower tier $79 UFB plans. Bigpipe are the same price for 100/20 unlimited. Any advantage to going with myRepublic? Bigpipe are no contract vs 24 months.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the general differences are:

Bigpipe:

Bring your own modem (none supplied).
Email support only.
No contract.
UBF only available in Auckland & Wellington at the moment.
No VOIP service.
Plans greater than 100 Mbps etc.

MyRepublic:

Modem supplied
Contract.
Email and call centre.
VOIP service included

Other than that both use GNAT but a static IP can be brought for a one off fee with both ISPs.

If you can get BigPipe are are technically minded, they're a better choice I'd say. MyRepublic's phone support is ridiculous - I was on hold for 35 odd minutes to get through after getting frustrated at no call back from their call back system after a week. VoIP can be had from 2Talk, and the speeds are better (MyRepublic keeps telling me that no one can supply enough backhaul to service customers on plans faster than 100Mbps. I keep telling them they're not the fastest RSP in the country then).

MR site states $100 discount towards router if you select the 24 month contract ($79.99 per month), otherwise baseline router is free with the 12 month contract ($99 per month).

I can't speak for MyRepublic, however BigPipe have been great for the last year, and I've found their performance has only increased over time which was unexpected given they have obviously taken on more users over time. Support is also prompt and top notch.

The My Republic "Senior Product Manager" (Whinery) that came here before they launched put me off ever being a customer of theirs, he came here making big claims and slagging off the competition but when people started questioning him he got very defensive and seems to be keeping a low profile since then. Big Pipe on the other hand seem to just let their actions and customers do the talking, when my contract is up with my current ISP I'm looking at switching to them.

I'm actually currently with Bigpipe (adsl) and they have been great, however they don't do UBF currently in New Plymouth so will have to switch to an ISP that does next month :/

I'm a BigPipe UFB customer and they're awesome. If you have your own modem and know how to set it up then I think they're the best choice as their prices are cheap and there are no contracts. I've found their speeds consistent and reliable.

Have been with MyRepublic since January (I think) and am perfectly happy with them - connection fine, support fine. Guess it also depends where you live. Presumably you're in an area where you can get both so don't know if one has a standout advantage. Must admit that MR seem to get some complaints on their FB page, though most seem to be with installation issues and hence a lot of the time with the actual installer.

Funnily enough, from my understanding of what happened, Bigpipe would've been the only other RSP I'm aware of who would've been affected.

I had two online chat call backs, and I also spoke to the on call receptionist once that weekend.

Lets not forget the month for free. No issues with that. Some other ISP's (not implying big pipe, but others) might have offered 3 days compensation if you are lucky. We didn't sign any SLA for this service so it was way more than I expected.
