Hi

Just wondering about my ping time to Snap.net.nz
I can get a better ping on my 4g phone, and I was wondering if this is normal

Draytek vigor 130 550m ish Line length to Cabinet.

33ms to Snap ChCh

I am based in Alexandra, THe best ping I have had is 16ms to Chch from recent memory .

try something like google.co.nz

what do you expect you ping to be?

there are a few different profiles you could be on (and no you can not adjust or have them adjusted they are done automatically), just looks like you are not on a DLM-1 profile but more like like DLM-2 hence the increased latency

i get 24ms ping from auckland to snaps speed test in dunedin on a DLM-1 profile, add in 8ms latency for a DLM-2 profile and you have your 32-34 ping.

After the Spark Outage a few days ago my DLM profile changed to one that adds 16ms onto any ping/speedtest I do, It's kinda annoying since it has also impacted the stability of my line but there's not really anything I can do :/

unless you were constantly connecting and disconnecting it shouldn't have made a difference, one disconnection doesnt/should change your DLM profile, unless over time your line has deteriorated and the disconnect just triggered DLM to change your line to a more suitable speed and stability because you were getting heaps of errors

So you are getting 24ms for 1500kms approx between servers.

For me
Ak 1500kms 48ms
ChCh is 500kms ish I am getting 34ms
Dunedin is 200kms I am getting 38ms , Probably routed though ChCh

did you read anything about the different DLM profiles i mentioned? distance isnt the only thing at affects latency on VDSL, and there is nothing you can do to change it.

My profile has a 0ms delay so its 5-7ms from my house in Auckland to the Auckland speed test server, the next one up has 8ms, then 16ms delay.

you need to find what your delay and INP are from your modem and that will tell you exactly is going on
