I'm looking at this one, because its price is very attractive (but very open to other suggestions too! So long as they're sub US$200):

Would I thus be correct to assume it will work very well in city areas (I live in Auckland), but would end up having rather more spotty reception than usual in rural areas?

The lack of 900MHz WCDMA means it's useless for Vodafone or 2degrees.

I think it'd work just fine on Spark being an 850 device, but with no 900, you're basically looking at no coverage outside of super high density zones, like CBDs.

No good either in cities, or outside cities - unless you don't mind being stuck on GSM a lot of the time.

I recently bought the Mlais M52 for my daughter - seems like a really solid phone - and looks like a good price ($US130) at that same website. Also has the plus of having both 850 and 900MHz WCDMA bands, along with 1800MHz 4G

Performance is pretty solid, approx the same as a one year old flagship phone. Build quality seems pretty good, although camera is only average.

I'm using the Ulefone Be Touch 2 on 2 Degrees at the moment. I've been very happy with it apart from the fingerprint scanner which I have not yet been able to get to work reliably.

re 3G - the 2Degreess wiki says its 3G frequencies are:

- UMTS-2100 (urban, usually in town centres).

- UMTS-900 (has longer range in rural situations).

Is this this compatible with the following stated 3G WCDMA frequencies for the Ulefone phone as its website says

Frequency: 2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz, 3G: WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz 4G：FDD-LTE: 800/1800/2100/2600MHz

Also Graeme - I have been looking at this phone on Chinavasion.
