Hi all,

I have been an Orcon member for many years now - unlimited broadband etc... I changed earlier this year from normal (inc. phoneline) to naked broadband, no worries. Still had the same black sleek modem and worked fine; faultless 24/7 broadband. Then not long after the modem stopped working - didn't connect to the internet at all (referring to connection and lights on the modem). Very nicely the modem was replaced. However ever since then I have had multiple disconnects per day (as reported by Orcon at one stage 12 x disconnects in one day).   Once again the modem was replaced (appreciated).

It is now months later and am still having the same issues, does anyone have an inkling of what is wrong? I don't get much satisfaction talking to Orcon support (especially after they attempted to invoice me for freight twice on faulty modems). Help is appreciated!

(Also, why does Orcon not phone anyone back... ever?)

Is your DSL sync dropping or just PPP?

If it's DSL sync dropping the issue will most probably be a wiring fault. Statistically speaking most wiring faults are within the premises (so will be inside your house) rather than the Chorus network, so basic fault finding needs to be undertaken to determine where the fault is.

It's worth remembering that the wiring inside your premises is your property and your responsibility. If you pay wiring maintenance then Chorus can fix this. If you don't it's your responsibility to get somebody to fix it or pay the Chorus fault fee for a repair.

Did you change the IP Address of the modem (192.168.20.1) by any chance?
I had a similar issue and my problem was because I changed the IP addresses range of the modem/LAN.

The DSL sync light stays on all the time even when disconnected. The internet light and connectivity to the internet is what keeps cutting out.

The first replacement modem that came and had issues with I called Orcon support and they ran through changing IPv6 options in the modem itself and that seemed to work (cutting down disconnections drastically) but only for 1 week, then same constant disconnections arose.
I haven't changed anything on the current modem (IP is still 192.168.20.1).

One day it could disconnect maybe 2-3 times a day, others can get up to 12-15 times... Them's the bad days...
Sometimes it will auto connect to the internet again like it had a brain fart, other times require a manual reset (turn off for 15 seconds then on again). Also sometimes the manual reset needs to be done a couple of times.

Thanks for your feedback so far guys

Just to rule out a bad DSL line anyway, could you post your DSL stats?

Also could you give me your Orcon username (via Private Message), I'll look into it from this side.
