Hi,

I'm thinking of moving to Flip and just a couple of questions:

Spark is increasing prices by 99c per month - does Flip intend to do the same or similar?

Can someone confirm whether or not DNS services like Unotelly will work with Flip ADSL?

1) nothing announced, but wouldn't surprise me if they did.  But really, quibbling over 99c seems a minor thing to consider up against things like customer service.

2) Flip use CGNAT with no way around it. So they might work, but consider you will need to be constantly updating your IP address all the time, which will get pretty tiring.

Pretty sure flip are one of the few ISPs that do have traffic shaping on their unlimited plan (they are going for a less tech savvy market, so it's understandable), so if that is a consideration you may want to look at other options.

Hi there - no plans to change our pricing at all.

Re VPN/DNS services, we don't block them.

Re traffic shaping, the only thing we do is limit p2p during peak times if there there load, which there isn't very often at all. It's just to manage abuse.

All other stuff like streaming, browsing, gaming and internet calling always runs at full speed.

You do have other options when it comes to the $85 per month price point for phone + unlimited ADSL. Check out nownz.co.nz they do POTS and unlimited ADSL at this pricepoint. unlimited internet.co.nz also do POTS plus unlimited ADSL for $80 per month.

They don't block VPN/DNS services, but as was mentioned in the first answer, because FLIP use CG-NAT, they share your public IP address between multiple users, and it dynamically changes all the time, even within moments, not just from reboot to reboot. So it causes a real issue with trying to use Unblock-US or UNOTelly. I've tried it, and it was no good. So I'm switching to another ISP.

Other than that issue with DNS stuff (if you want to access things on your network externally, like a shared NAS or a wifi CCTV cam, etc, it won't work properly. Even using dynamic DNS doesn't really solve it because of the CGNAT issue.), I found it a satisfactory ISP.

Hi Scott,

Had an unuseable connection for a week now, 100% packet loss.

Support reckons another 72 hours minimum to rectify.

It is obvious to see on which hop the loss is happening, are you having technical difficulties over the ditch?

Speed is a a snails pace, can you give me any reason?

Cheers

Hi there,

We're not aware of any widespread problems at the moment. It sounds like the team have this in hand but feel free to send us a PM with your account info and we'll make sure the guys are across it.

Cheers!
