I have a Galaxy S6 g920i 32GB version. I'm using a 2D sim card. When the phone is using 4G I have service. But as soon as my device uses 3G I get Emergency Calls Only. I'm currently in the urban area of Hamilton.

Does my model not have the correct bands for 3G?

Probably has the wrong bands and is picking up another provider instead.

Where was the phone purchased from?
Has it been reported stolen? Check it's IMEI www.tcf.org.nz/content/cfa46b54-509c-44aa-91da-3bfe14d20f8f.html
If it's NZ stock, it should support all 3 networks. (Typically 3G would work and not 4G for international phones)

Pretty much as above.
Check IMEI to see if it's blocked - weird that it would work on 4G but not 3G though.

I have one S6 from Spark, and another from 2Degrees - both work flawlessly on 3G and 4G with either Spark/2D SIM.
