I am looking for a VDSL2 modem that supports the following ONLY - can some one direct me to a product if you no of one.

WAN - Obviously Supports VDSL2 with all the profiles, also a WAN connection for the ONT in the future when UFB eventually gets here.
Minimum above this would be one Gigabit port, 2 extra would be preferred.

Does anyone know of a modem with just these specs? I don't want or need wireless and/or media services or any of the usual ad ons that go with them.

If you would let me know it would be appreciated as I prefer to split my boxes to - modem - switch - wireless as opposed to having an integrated all in one device that strains under load.

Redundant.

You won't need a modem. You will need a router and switch. OR you could have a combined router/switch.

I like separates too.
I'm on cable and use modem > router > switch > wireless access point

Yup it would become redundant, the DrayTek Vigor 2860 is actually what I am looking for :) if I don't want to have to dispose of the device in the future.

I already have a 16 port managed layer 2 switch and a Nighthawk R8000 AC3200 which I purchased before going to VDSL2, I now from that have a Fritzbox 7490.

So ill do a cost / benefit analysis of if I am better going the 130 route and just chucking it when I'm done or the Vigor 2860 and keeping it in conjunction with the other gear.

I know it's a lot of extra "stuff" but have always found boxes that have two many bells and whistles don't do them all well - the master of one trade as opposed to knowledgeable in many rule and while each box is an extra TTL additive at least each box runs at full tilt because it's only doing the one job.

Thanks for pointing me in what seems to be the right direction.

BTW mine will be Modem - Switch then in parallel Wireless and Dect.

How long will it be until you can get fibre? (in my case it's 2020!)
If it's 2 years or longer I would go with the 130. It's cheap and very good.

I presume you are running a DT 130? if so how have you found it.?

I ran a Vigor 130 when I was on VDSL, 2 years ago (before going to 100/10 HFC cable).
No problems. It just worked.

(I now use a Cisco DPC3008 cable modem supplied by Vodafone)

Bigpipe.
Paid for my master filter install and modem.
Cheap. No contract. No frills. No phone.

I had no problems at all with Bigpipe, but at the time cable was much faster than VDSL (sadly, it isn't always now) so I switched to cable, and fell into the clutches of Vodafone.

Personally I wouldn't waste money on the 2860 - I had a 2130 on a fibre connection a few years ago and while it was good when running it required reboots far too often as far as I was concerned.

The 130 as a modem however is super reliable and highly recommended.

I'd get a VDSL modem which works well in bridge mode and decent router to connect to it. That way when you move to UFB you'll be able to just hook your router up to the ONT and continue on. There are many routers out there which will work on UFB, depends on what your requirements are. If you're going to use it on UFB with 2degrees it'll need to support VLAN 10 tagged PPPoE on its WAN port.

The NV4V is overkill tho all im looking to do is have a modem with one gigabit lan connection the Dreytek seems to be the winner in spades, I am wanting to use my existing equipment with it as I have always believed and still do that having multiple boxes doing single jobs is better than having one box that attempts to do it all and not necessarily that well.

The DV130 will be VDSL connection only
My AC3200 will do wireless
My 16 port managed layer 2 switch will sit between them and I will use the Fritz 7490 with every thing else turned off for dect.

You'll probably think that is a waste of time but I will check also that the drey tek supports but from what I have seen in the doco it looks like it supports everything I need and it's cheap - and yes I know you get what you pay for :) as for routing I can get my layer 2 gigabit switch to do it.

Looks and sounds like any incredibly complicated (and I would go as far as saying very backwards) setup having so many devices and wanting the cheapest of them all (the VDSL2 modem) to do NAT when you already own far more capable devices that would do far better job.

A switch doing routing? 😮 From your description it sounds like your Asus router will be doing it.

If cost is a concern just get an hg630b on trademe and stick it in bridge mode.

It's a websmart switch which I haven't really looked at yet Allied Telesis AT-GS950/16, knowing my luck once Ive actually read the doco ill probably find it doesn't route - ill have the equipment necessary some where here I have enough to sink a battleship - just only one VDSL router the fritz. Just found the doco so ill have a read :) fun for tonite.
