Hi team. I'm thinking of changing from Fibre 100/20 to 200/20. Can any one who has done this give any feed back on speed improvement. Is the extra $30 a month worth it ?

What do you currently use your connection for at the moment? That will likely dictate whether there's any advantage to upgrading to a faster speed.

I have 200/200 and in reality it is unnecessary as most websites become a bottleneck for single connections. I am making up time for the 128kbps "Broadband" days and just have money to burn

I've said in another thread... I went from Fibre 30 to Fibre 100. The difference in speed while browsing is barely noticeable. Downloading is faster, multiple streaming is better of course, but browsing not so much.

What is your network gear like?

Does your router have gigabit ports?

Are you using wired or wireless devices?

If you have gigabit wired to a gigabit port on router then you may notice it downloading.

If you are using wireless - I wouldn't bother.

I strongly considered it and have gigabit everywhere, but 100Mbps lets me download, watch netflix and browse.

I have 200/200 and find it really good considering our house is all IP based (as in, Netflix, Hulu, TVNZ On Demand etc) as well as both my partner and myself being rather heavy gamers.

Having the upstream bandwidth in my case is incredibly good. I have had to invest a bit into my network (running Gigabit switching, an Edgerouter Lite + Xclaim XI-3 Wireless access point) but having the bandwidth there no matter what is being downloaded / uploaded for gaming, streaming etc is very good. If you're a heavy downloader who uses Ethernet for their main devices I'd recommend the 200/20 or 200/200 plans however if you're only using WiFi for everything then this will be your main constraint and you'll likely not notice any speed improvements.

For most people, the old 100/50 plan was overkill. I could go back to 100/50 but it is more a "want" instead of "need" in my current use-case. I have fun tinkering with my network, making friends jealous of my low latency and fast speeds etc. If you want 200/20 then go for it!

Thanks all for the replies. Most of what we do is wireless, so no real advantage in changing by the looks. I'll spend the extra $30 else where.

We have Gigabit, well 1000 down, 500 up, though the speed is a bit less than that.
And even though Gigabit is great, it's only really good if you are downloading from a server that is close. Though it does mean we can stream HD BBC stuff etc without any issues on many devices at once.

Haha, basically this. However having the massive upload means I could push/pull stuff between my home machine and the one at work as if they are on the same network.
