Hey guys, I'm on VDSL with the Frtizbox 7490 and last night I decided to do a speedtest and noticed my speed has increased from the usual 46Mbps to near 56Mbps. After noticing that difference I decided to check the Fritzbox, to my surprise the DSL information was showing the appropriate results as can be seen in the image below.

At the time I was still on the 6.20 firmware and after seeing that there was an update available I stupidly decided to update the Fritzbox to 6.30. I didn't think this would have done anything to affect my speeds but to my surprise the speeds lowered down to what can be seen in the picture below.

There's about 30 minutes difference between the two pictures. The only difference was literally updating the firmware. I'd like to be able to go back to 6.20 but am not exactly sure how to go about it. I'm guessing I need obtain the 2 degrees 6.20 firmware, right? I know the difference isn't huge but after jumping up almost 10Mbits it seems a bit hard to let go.

If anyone has any information on how to go about reverting it it would be greatly appreciated.

This is nothing to do with the firmware. It is simply DLM doing it's thing. Your VDSL will always vary in speed.

I Notice the carrier record is different,

"Carrier record                     This value indicates which handshakes are used for Annex J or VDSL "

Is there a way in the fritzbox to force the A43c Setting?? and then re compare the stats.
this may also have a detrimental effect if the line cant re-sync due to noise on the line causing Worse line speeds.

And your signal to noise ratio is different meaning there is more noise on the line, thus its a tad slower on the throughput.

just check where your vdsl phone line is in relation to power cords and transformers as these INDUCE noise if in parallel to each other, just moving the incoming line away from power cords alone should help some what, it depends on how noticeable that is.

here is a link to a thread that may help understanding it all.

Personally, i would leave it as it is, but there's the 'Use previous DSL version' in the line setting tab you could try? Though this means more reboots = DLM thinking your line is worse than it is.

I think there are more instances of people getting speed jumps from the 6.30 firmware rather than the other way around. Theres a thread on here about it (sorry not to link it).

Hi BSam,

Michael is most likely right below:

michaelmurfy: This is nothing to do with the firmware. It is simply DLM doing it's thing. Your VDSL will always vary in speed.

The DSLAM in the exchange probably detected the change and/or the reboots on the line, and adjusted the DLM profiles to attempt to stabilise this.

I'd recommend keeping an eye on it over the next week or so, without powering down your Fritz!Box if you can avoid it, and see if the profile readjusts back up.

The good sign is you still have a 17a profile, so the line itself is solid.

Hope that helps! Thanks
