My 2degrees ADSL speed has been really bad these past two weeks. Speedtest.net reports ~4.5mbs download, I can't sustain more than 220kbs download from a server of mine that I used to get ~900 kbs from.

I called 2degrees they told me they would put on a line test and asked me to do factory reset ... well I did a factory reset of my Fritz Box 7340 and used the ADSL settings they provided ... the DSL connects by the internet does not ... three calls later and nobody can tell me why the settings don't work. I finally find an old backup of my FritzBox settings and find the ADSL settings inside of it. I ask them why do these work (albeit slowly), but the correct official settings don't ... and nobody has a clue. Very frustrating.

Can anyone tell me what the correct ADSL settings for 2degrees broadband are any why my old settings work, and if my old settings are the cause of my slow speed?

The new settings they wanted me to plug in (but did not work):
Permanent Connection
Use VLAN Disabled
VPI: 0
VCI: 100
Encapsulation PPPoA/VC-MUX

My old setting that work (slowly):
Permanent Connection
VLAN ID: 10
VPI: 0
VCI: 110
Encapsulation PPPoE

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

These settings won't cause your slow speeds. Can you post your DSL line stats?

Hi nzpaul,

DarkShadow is correct, changing those settings won't affect your speeds, it only changes the virtual pathway and the encapsulation type that your device logs in to the services with at the exchange.

Due to an old bug in the Fritz!Box firmware, it is not possible to remove a VLAN ID from within the GUI, requiring a factory reset. The issue with this is if the device has our config with a VLAN ID on it, the reset will restore this config.

This bug has supposedly been fixed with a recent firmware release on most models, however as the 7340 is end of life it has not received this new release.

The settings you had previously (below) are more than suitable for most ADSL connections, we recommend you use these and try to isolate other causes for your speed issues.

VLAN ID: 10
VPI: 0
VCI: 110
Encapsulation PPPoE

Can you please PM us with an account number or username, and we'll take a look in to your speed problems for you.

Thanks

A few hours, after the call it suddenly started working.... so I wanted to wait 24 hours before posting my stats. The only thing I did on my end was throttle the DSL connection (there is a slider in my router from More Reliable - - > Faster)

In case you are interested, here are my stats now

Thanks Ralph. Now that makes sense. My speed seems to have come right... after a week of not working (and me running speedtests throughout the week, and since throughout my work day I am transferring large files (up and down) I would have noticed.
