Interesting that Orcon's starter plan is now 100/20. I will be switching from 30/10 80GB to 100/20 100GB for the same price ($85).

My current black Genius router (V1424 fware) is very reliable but I am wondering about pushing to have it replaced with the NP4V because my current Genius won't allow wireless attached devices to share my network. (Trying to access shares results in a 80070035 'Network path not found' error).

I have another AP upstairs that does share properly so it is not a real biggie but the Genius should share as well.

The plan change means I will go onto a 12 month contract so perhaps it is reasonable to ask for a properly working router?

If you are not currently in contract and you'll be going to a new contract definitely ask for a properly working router.

Worst case they say no and you go to another ISP who will give you a new router.

We changed ISP a few months ago and with UFB it was seamless, the new router uses port based authentication so I didn't even have to change the user name and password on the router.  When I went to work we were connected with our old ISP and when I got home we were connected with our new ISP.  I didn't even have to reboot the router.

looks one has to ask to be switched from 30/10 to 100/20?

@graemeh - yes, I am off contract. I've had UFB for over three years, now. Would have to hope a new router is as reliable as the old one!

@hangon - Probably. I just took it for granted as this has often been the case for this sort of thing.

But if you want to switch, wait till the 29th as they can't do it till then.

Looks good - more for the same price , why wouldn't you?

Oh, because you have to deal with their call centre :-(

Time to harness my inner masochist and give them a call ...

You'll actually need a new modem with the new plans, the old black Genius device won't work. :) The modem we use with these plans is the Netcomm NF4V, and you'll be sent one to coincide with your plan change.

For any current customers looking at swapping over the new plans, they're not quite ready just yet, but if you give our Sales team a buzz on 0800 56 46 87 they can add you to the list to get swapped over when they're launched. Cheers!

Some Wifi routers have a client isolation mode which prevents peer to peer type communication, check the settings.

Thanks, Cameron, for that info. The person I spoke to said I wouldn't need the new router.

@elpenguino - no delay to speak of using the ph no. advertised for plan changes.

thanks @linw - I don't want to be too harsh on the orcon call centre - the last time I called the experience was better.
I just have 'a thing' about off-shoring these services because I would like to see them kept locally.
Back to the topic, that's a good deal indeed, I'll call when the coast is clear. Unlimited @ 100MB, it's a long way from where I was 10 years ago.

Any word on changes to business plans? I'm hanging out to upgrade to 200/200 from our current 100/50 but these don't seem to be updated?

Could you please confirm if I've already had a NF4V (white) I don't need to a new device sent? I called yesterday the nice lady was saying they will need to send a new modem specifically configured for the new plan.

PM sent with my modem details. Thanks.

Only had it for a new months feels like a waste.

Nothing yet. I presume when a new router arrives it will be imminent.

But, hey, I am in no immediate hurry and the current setup is working fine.
