I'm thinking there is more than 2 degrees are letting on.  I had a perfectly stable 45Mbps+ connection.  I live in a settled area, i.e. not many houses, building going on etc.  Moved over to the new plans (and why wouldn't you? - I saved $20) and now my speeds have plummeted to 18Mbps.

How are you measuring that speed?

Nothing fancy (I don't have a fritzbox) however speedtest.net has reported consistent figures for the past year or two since I switched to VDSL - steady as a rock.  Now the results are still steady and consistent - at half the speed, and nothing has changed - firmware, hardware.  I tend to notice it in real life when we have more than 1 netflix user etc

Wouldn't it be more sensible to look at the sync rate and attenuation figures provided by your modem/router to determine the health of your connection.

I have a zyxel, not a Fritz, so doesn't have the level of reporting, and besides it's a pain to log into to monitor.  It's just always worked.  I'm just making the observation this is appears more than a co-incidence, that it happened with the change of plan.  That's the only factor that's new.

Zyxel P870 gives very detailed connection statistics and 5 of their models allow connections from dslstats utility to draw the pretty graphs.

It may be the only factor you know is new, but other changes can happen.

The first step before anyone can give any really meaningful advice is to do as suggested, and get the DSL line stats from the modem, and post them here.

for all we know the modem stats still say you are connected at 45mbps but there are other things causing issues, like maybe you are using wifi for testing and its congested or something similar

2D maxes out their VDSL at 30Mbps according to their website. (other providers allow VDSL to go full speed)

https://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/broadband/?gclid=CMH_9Nqfj8kCFdh6vQodaisEkA
"Unlimited Best connection available up to 30Mbps"

but that doesn't explain why it would drop to 18, and not 30.

The reference of 'up to 30Mb/s' is on UFB. You can pay for the upgrade in speed for UFB.
I don't believe there is a cap on VDSL, I may be wrong.

Hi everyone,

We don't limit or control our VDSL synch speeds, you'll get the best that your line can handle between your modem and the cabinet/exchange.

If you have experienced a drop in synch rates, it is pretty likely that a fault has developed on your line or in the area that is affecting those rates. Please give the team a yell on 0800 022 022 option 2 and they'll be able to diagnose and send it to field force if required.

Thanks,

Ralph ^JOB
