Hi all

I know you're probably sick of these topics but here goes.

I've read through other issues people are having and none have solved mine yet.

I just switched from Vodafone ADSL to 2degrees VDSL and it has literally just now ticked over (I was watching YouTube. How inconvenient).

When plugging in the Fritzbox I have internet. No problem. However I'm not keen on using it and in fact I posted a topic a couple of months ago asking if I would have any issues using my own gear. Well here I am.

I have an Asus ac66u router connected to a draytek vigor 130. I have used the draytek default config for VDSL tagging as per their instructions here: http://downloads.snappernet.co.nz/draytek/dv130/DV130_Bridge_VDSL%2BADSL%2BEUBA_V3.8.7.1.zip which states I do not need to implement vlan tagging on my roter as it will insert it. Previously to trying this I had it set up manually anyway.

On my router I have changed my pppoe settings to what I presume they should be, I've never been given a password but I thought anything other than blank would work. [Username]@snap.co.nz

The modem gets line sync, but my router will not connect to the wan at all. Any ideas? It's definitely not a far end issue because as I said the fritzbox is fine.

You need the password associated to the account

It should be the same one you logon to the 2degrees website https://secure.2degreesbroadband.co.nz/login/?next=/

You'll need to call them to reset it afaik

Hi 2fst4u,

Your PPP username and password will be what you set up on sign up. If you don't remember what this is, you'll need to give the team a yell on 0800 022 022 opt 2 and they'll be able to reset this for you. In most cases, this will be the same as what you use to log in to Your 2degrees > Broadband and Home Phone (or the old my Snap).

Full settings for VDSL with us are:

Encapsulation: PPPoE
VLAN: 10
VPI: 0
VCI: 110

Then username and pass as per the account set up.

Still having issues I'm afraid. Would a password reset maybe take a while to propagate? All other settings are correct and my Asus router still won't get a wan link.

After a password reset I plugged the fritzbox back in and it is fine which begs the question, how does it get it's pppoe details if I didn't need to change them?

Regardless after checking the connection, Asus still has no joy

Edit: false alarm. Now fritzbox won't connect

Have you left service name blank? The only PPPoE info you should be entering are YOURUSERNAME@snap.net.nz+ your account password.

Not 100% sure, but I believe the Fritzboxes 2D give out can "phone home" after being factory reset and pull down their required configs again. Could be worth a try?

Yes credentials are 100% as they should be. I changed the password as per my change online on the fritzbox and it still won't connect now either. Might have to phone up

Good old phone call saves the day.

Issues were two fold:

1. Didn't know my initial password so I wasn't able to use the Asus router to start with.

2. After resetting and changing my password online, this didn't propagate (or was too slow for my patience) and my pppoe credentials didn't match. Bloke on the phone manually changed it for me and those credentials worked. Plugged the Asus router in and it worked with the new credentials.

So had I known the password to start with I would have been fine, and if the password change had propagated I would have been fine then too.

Either way, problem solved.
