one would assume if you want an upgrade you would need to sign a contract

I have no problem signing a contract. My only other option besides VDSL is Vodafone cable until 2019 so I don't think I'll be changing anytime soon.

Might give 2degrees a call and see what the deal is.

Well that was a good call.

New 12 month contract, $20 per month cheaper then what I was on and upgraded modem for $149 which is a lot less then buying a new one. Plus I can now sell the 7390.

I moved house and sign up for 12 months contract, promise 7490 Fritz box delivery.
I was told with VDSL only selected connection  will get it. [ << dont really know what it really means]
Ending with a 7360 box! Wireless range is not as good as 7490, otherwise no issue.

Why not ring them and get it swapped?

We bought a new one outright from 2degrees. They weren't going to for a start unless we went on contract. I mentioned that the Commerce Commission might be interested in their approach.
Anyhow they rang back and said it was all a big mistake and agreed to sell us a new one for $199.
It was worth getting as we had an older Fritzbox 7340 I think, and didn't notice any change in speed after getting UFB. It has improved considerably with the new Fritzbox.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I did. As I stated they will only issue to new UFB connection with 7490 not VDSL. BTW my newVDSL connection was last month October. Perhaps old Snap has heaps of 7360 fritz box to dispose off.

leave 2degrees, then rejoin with a different identity and new contract for the modem.

2degrees contract prices are looking a bit ugly to me of late, might be time to shop around.
