Is there a good reason why both black and white routers won't let wireless attached clients see the wired LAN?

Here was me thinking the just installed NF4V would solve this issue! Silly me.

There must be a reason for this, as someone made this decision twice, but it beats me what that could be. If this was the only AP in a household it could be severely problematic.

I have several LAN devices attached on my Genius White (NF4V) and all accessible from the WLAN (and vice versa)

What's the exact setup and problem you're experiencing?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

are you running a access point along with the genius?

Jase2985: are you running a access point along with the genius?

Yes I was going to say I have heard of issues when devices roam from a LAN attached AP to the internal AP.  It seems to relate to the internal MAC table / spanning tree.  But I couldn't seem to reproduce it with my AP running OpenWRT when I tried at home.

bingo

i have the issue with my NF8AC when i roam to my Technicolour TG589 then back i loose visibility of devices on my LAN, specifically cabled devices.

I have a support ticket with netcomm and they have acknowledged the ticket and admit there is an issue there and in their words "this issue has been lodged to their road map but unfortunately there is no ETA yet to address this particular issue"

been 7 months since i raised the issue

ive tried using a variety of other access points from 4 different vendors and all 4 still had those issues, sent them some wireshark captures and that seemed to help them identify the issue

it seems to affect the NF4V and the NF8AC, and potentially other netcomm devices.

At least they are admitting the issue now.

I can't even use the switch in my netcomms. Plug one into the other and then from one to the LAN and the second one goes awol periodically. Most basic feature works worse than a $25 switch.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Thanks for the responses.

I do have another AP (1043ND) so that gels with what some of you are saying.

Tried the following:-
Switched off AP (1043ND). Phone still had ltd connectivity.

Re-booted the NF4V and phone. Ltd connectivity from phone.

And now no connection via LAN to NF4V. Ooops. Tried various re-connections without luck then cabled notebook directly to the NF4V. Whew, it worked.

After this, all the LAN connected PCs came right. Was it a time thing? I've rebooted the NF4V several times before without this 15 min outage.

But, now when I use Fing on my phone I see all the LAN devices! Wonder how long this will last?

So, now I am totally confused!

Edit:- connected the phone to the 1043ND then back to the NF4V. Now only the ph and NF4V showing so that seems pretty conclusive.

i found i had to restore a backed up version of the settings for things to come right.

but there may be something time related too as my android sometimes can see everything and sometimes it cant. but it still doesnt let me connect to my wired computer to grab files

Seems like we have a problem that can't be resolved.

Oh, well, at least I am used to it after over three years!

You can work around it by setting up the AP as a router or NAT (if it's possible) between the NF4V LAN and the AP's WLAN.  This means it doesn't have to know the MAC address has moved.  I'm pretty sure this won't allow for seamless roaming so you'll want to use a different SSID for your secondary AP.

You may also be able to work around it by moving the built in WLAN on the NF4V to a different subnet, but I've not had much success trying to even get this working in the past.

I'll nudge the CPE team, see if we can reproduce it in house and raise it with Netcomm.  We buy a lot of these units so it may add some clout.

If anyone who already raised the issue with Netcomm has a reference number of any kind, pass it along, it may be enough for me to escalate to them without waiting for in house testing.  Cheers.

This morning I turned my phone on and it is still connected to the NF4V but it now shows all the networked devices!

Switched back to 1043ND and back to NF4V and now only two devices seen.

So, wonder if they will come back again as they did overnight??

Even more weird or does it indicate some table building?

Will check during the day to see what happens.

Well, the shares on my phone have come back. That's twice now so don't know what that tells you.

It indicates slow refresh of the FIB or MAC table.  Which fits all the symptoms described.
