Amusing email from MR today about how they've reduced their phone rates - they 'will provide significant savings to all of our calling customers!', so I check the only country I'm interested in, South Africa, and lo and behold, cell phone rates have gone from 25c/min to 30 and landline rates have tripled to (also) 30c/min.

(yes I am being selective but that doesn't sound like a lower calling rate to me)

I've had a look at the email you are referring to and it was talking about our overall rate reduction, which definitely does drive savings for most customers. For yourself who only calls to SA I agree this is not ideal as the rates did increase to some destinations.

In saying this, we had over 13,000 rates to review and some anomalies are likely with a change of this size. I'll get the guys to check in on the rates to SA and see if there is anything we can do - no promises but will update in a day or so!

Thanks, its very kind. No guarantees like you said, but nothing ventured, etc, etc...

If you mainly call SA (i do too), then consider 2Talk.  Their rates are the best I find.  For $20 a month, you get about 3000 minutes to most international destinations (including SA).

Its VOIP though, so may require you to purchase a voip phone for ATA.
