Net worked right from go last week, although speeds nowhere near what I was hoping I'd achieve, which I figured may improve over the weekend/time for whatever reason. Having signed up to the Dunedin Gigatown package, capable of speeds of up to 1Gbps - of course wasn't in reality expecting to get quite those speeds but haven't come close!
From both speedtest.net and MyRepublic's own speed test, the max that I have hit is 95 Mbps, that was connected via Cat5e ethernet directly to their supplied router (TP-Link Archer C2). Via wifi, I've managed up to 60 Mbps but typically between 15-45 Mbps.
I appreciate that there's all sorts of variables come into play with wifi, so let's just worry about the ethernet for now, as I'm sure wifi speeds will improve once ethernet is more stable - can anyone offer any suggestions about what I could do, or potentially what MyRepublic could do? Could potentially they not have switched/triggered me to 1 Gbps from the more "standard" nationwide 100 Mbps offering? I did speak to a rep yesterday who wasn't wonderfully helpful, as he just kept saying the speeds would be affected by interference from microwave, walls, etc, despite me repeating I was asking specifically in regards to speeds achievable over ethernet, not wifi.
Would there be any point me trying Cat6 cable?
I acknowledge that MyRepublic might not be the quickest - especially down in Dunedin, as routed via Auckland - but surely in offering a Gigatown package I should be able to hit much higher speeds. I have a couple of nearby friends on Orcon who are hitting over 600 Mbps over wifi. I also appreciate that Speedtest etc aren't necessarily perfectly accurate but certainly seems to be reflecting my download speed experience etc. And yes, I know I should be grateful I've got speeds better than most, but might as well be getting what I pay for! :)
Any thoughts greatly appreciated thanks!
